Okay, both men and women, how many chances would you give someone who’s cancelled a first date on you twice?

This is regarding someone who’s not on FAB, and we had plans for dinner tonight. I’ve heard nothing from him today so had to message him asking if we’re still on for it, and he’s just called saying he’s tied up with work so will be best to cancel it and rearrange for next week. Thing is, this is the second time this has happened with him and I don’t know whether I’m wasting my time here or just being an over dramatic twat? (Usually the case with me).

Depends on the prior relationship that exists.

If as in your case it's a first meet - No second chances for a stand up. 1 second chance for a late cancellation. 2 for an early cancellation.

If it's a second or more meet, 3 strikes.

I think it’s just an excuse personally. It’s a situation where he knew he would be busy with work bookings beforehand so I don’t know why he would have said tonight is doable! Silly man. Boring night ahead now

I'd probably be hoping they were burning in hell and that's why they didn't make a second date. He may have been busy at work, did that mean it stopped him from being decent about it and telling you before you had to ask?

If it was me that had to cancel I would want to text then speak to person and explain why I couldn't meet up, then you could express the fact that you still really want to meet and will re arrange.

if someone had arranged to meet me, then cancelled twice without very good reason, I don't think I would bother arranging anything else.

If it was a casual meet up (typically on here) then I think it's a bit different, you may give a few chances.

Thank you. I just wanted an opinion as I didn’t know whether I was overreacting or not, that’s all. Spending the evening with a girlfriend having a movie night and having ice cream so I’m making the most of it I guess

Good point. Depends on his job. He might not have access to his phone during the day to be able to text.

If it was me I'd base my decision on how well I knew him. I have a friend that has to cancel quite often due to work but it's a genuine reason.

We're reasonably fluid when it comes to cancelling before the meet if there's a good window of time. It's almost factored into the arrangements.

What we have zero tolerance for is being stood up; either just silence or the they chicken out with a "Just had txt from sis/bro/mum/dad /friend need to go, I saw you though, another time". That kind of time (and money) waster is basically lower than pond scum.

I honestly thought the quote has a third line and slightly different , although yours does work well it's not triggered my memory.
