i DJ’d back in the 90s, indeed mixing vinyl is a talent, not something you see very often nowadays.

I still think every self respecting DJ should cut their teeth on vinyl. It gives you a proper feel for what you're doing. Teaches you the raw basics of mixing. Actually physically manipulating a record.

Best sets I've experienced? Tough one, but off the top of my head: Extrawelt at Nature One 2009 was pretty special. Don't think I've had goosebumps as intense as the ones I got when they dropped Soopertrak. Deadmau5 opening his set with the remix of Zelda Ocarina of Time, leading into Sophie's Got a Ladder, again at Nature One 2009. Nathan Fake live at Fuse Club in Brussels. Would have been around 2004. Pitch black room except for a single blue spotlight focused on him. He was only 19 at the time. Collabs 3000 (Chris Liebing and Speedy J) at I Love Techno in Ghent in 2006 was amazing. I'm sure I'm forgetting some absolute belters, but yeah there's a few!

Going back quite a few years but one of the Masters of their time was Paul Oakenfold.

His party gig at the end of UK rule and handover of Hong Kong to the Chinese, was legendary. I have it still on tape... 2 hrs of genius. The event in total went on for 6 hours in reality but BBC R1 then only broadcast the 2 hours.

Nowadays, Armin van Buuren is to me, still the best.

DJ Tanith at Universe in 1992. As the opening lyrics 'He's rough, he's rugged, he's full of shit' boomed out, I was hooked. Looking around to see the usual white-gloved happy-clappy ravers running for cover, those remaining danced our arses off to what felt like the hardest music imaginable. The metaphorical blue pill taken that night led me down a rabbit hole into a world of gabber and hard techno that I never knew existed. Without that night I'm not sure I would ever have discovered Nasenbluten and other artists on the Bloody Fist label, Kotzaak, Industrial Strength, Nightmares are Reality by C-Tank, Influid II, Wo Ist Der Doktor by Dr Mindfuck, the list goes on... as my ever-expanding record collection will testify

Jeff Mills in Brum, mid 90's-ish (all blends in to one now )

Four decks, two drum machines and a sampler. Had to stop dancing to watch him at work. At one point he was mixing between all four decks, the sampler and one dtum machine and playing live beats over the top on the other one- man was like a bloody octopus! Utter joy to watch and listen too
