Daughters gone vegetarian, and I'm at a loss as to what to pack for picnics this summer, although she is still eating dairy, I don't want to be "that dad" whose imagination only stretches to a cheese butty.

Any ideas?

Cardiff

Most supermarkets have a pretty good quorn section now.

Have seen in Tesco at least, they do mini eggs, cocktail sausages, chicken style “meat” ham style “meat” for sandwiches, all vegetarian.

That’s all in the fridge aisle, then frozen you can get fake chicken nuggets and burgers, things like that.

You could put together almost an identical picnic as a non vegetarian would have.

Happy picnicking!

There's loads of things you can buy. You can get vegetarian scotch eggs, cocktail sausages and sausage rolls. Quiche and pastries all to go with the obligatory cheese butty

Have you looked on the Quorn website, they have a huge variety of non meat products. Our current favourite is the chilli and lime sliced fillets.

Stoke area

Quiche, cherry tomatoes, cheese n onion rolls ( like sausage rolls), potato salad, couscous, boiled egg, crisps and little cakes . Loads of choice without turning to the pretend meat options

As has already been mentioned above. And any bakers will have a good selection of veggie pasties and pies. Or try your local deli, It's not that hard these days.

You may actually enjoy broadening your own culinary horizon.

C'est moi Boudoir

I have a vegan and a vegetarian. Neither like quorn but do like marinated tofu. Stir fry and salads are fantastic and simple to do. Left over oven roasted vegetables mixed with quinoa, couscous or pasta are delicious cold. Think flavour rather than no meat and it's easy tastier and healthier rather than the prepared stuff

Avocado is another versatile staple. I enjoy cooking for them but was daunted at first. I mostly eat vegetarian now because it's so good and easy to cook. Have fun figuring it out with your daughter

Veggie samosas!! I'm a confirmed carnivore but love me a good samosa.

I think it goes back to my Sikh landlord when I shared a house with a couple of other young chaps in Birmingham many years ago - he'd come round to collect the rent and always had a paper bag full of his wife's home-made samosas in the pocket of his raincoat.

He usually had a small bottle of rum in the other pocket. I think he quite liked escaping to our house for a while
