I never have and I've never had a problem with colours running. Is colour running a thing of the past?

Exactly, the only time I separate clothes is if I have normal everyday clothes and dirty work clothes. Any other time, just bang them all in together

Tell that to my step son who was most unimpressed with his pink (formerly white) boxers.

I do wash whites and pale colours separately to darks.

I used to, but wash everything at 30 degrees now, so no need. It doesn't even get the dirt out, so the colour should be fine!

Whatever you do separate the reds from whites. Whites tend to be washed at higher heats and the reds will run and turn the whites pink lol

Yep I separate colours & whites.

Maybe some colours don’t run like they used too but I definitely think whites don’t stay white for long if you start mixing ‘em in with black / navy clothes!

I separate my whites from my light colours and my lights from my darks.

I also wash my underwear separately.

I also don't mix my towels and bedding with my clothing.

My whites are washed at a higher temp so they stay white for longer.

I have piles of washing every week so no need to bung it all in together and no half loads.

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

I’m no expert but how does washing at a higher temp keep things white for longer? Surely it’s what you do to them after they’re washed that determines how quickly they get dirty?

It’s still a mystery to me how things go from the wash basket to my wardrobe - i figured it must be magic ??

I don't wear enough white clothes so when I do they have to go in with the sheets. It's the only time bedding and clothes get mixed together.

Separating now won't make them white again. Do they sit in a washing pile on their own, not knowing which way to go?

His socks now just go with whatever is going in the washing machine. They are misfit clothes.

"Does anybody separate there whites and colours?

I don't separate but my other half does. He also does a wash, then an extra rinse, then add conditioner and another rinse: takes forever. I bung everything in on a 40 degree wash: jobs a good un.

Thing is he prefers to do the washing and only washes when he's down to his last pair of socks. He washes the blacks first. I should add he only wears black...I don't have black clothes.

I wash mine and leave him to it.

Dyes are certainly NOT fast even in this day and age. I bought new bedding (duvet covers, extra pillow cases and coordinating bottom sheets) a couple of months ago and one of the bottom sheets still runs colour so has to be washed in its own.

Have you tried soaking them in a bleach solution and then putting them on a hot wash?

She doesn't just separate whites from colours, she also separates the individual colours.... drives me mental!

We do separate washes. Darks, whites, towels have a boil wash, oranges and reds together, greens and yellows together.

My step mum used to put everything in together and wondered why it all came out looking dull and horrible. My colours stay true.
