Which means everyone just scans down the page to find the magic phrase

Mine is long but it’s pretty obvious if people haven’t read it. Doesn’t bother me either way.

I think profiles don't necessarily need to be long as long as it's honest . Mine isn't a Shakespeare novel but it's honest about myself and to the point . I don't mind reading longish profiles but I've seen some that take longer to read than than small print on insurance claims

Mine is quite lengthy, but I'm searching for something very specific, so the aim is to explain that in order to reduce time wasting on both sides. I would say 99% of people who message me haven't read it and it's pretty easy to spot. I delete their messages and move on. It's annoying but inevitable. I spend my energy focusing on the ones who have read it

I don't read long profiles; or I skim read.

I can usually get an idea of the person by reading a paragraph or two. That can either put me off them, or want to talk to them.

I wouldn't say it's totally pointless - I always read someone's profile text fully before I initially start chatting to them and decide if I think they are someone I'd like to talk to off the back of it - but once you've established a connection and are chatting it becomes less important, although still relevant and a good point of reference

Should people be offended if somebody finds their pictures more interesting than a long profile? I’m probably the guilty party you all speak of. It’s not just on here please don’t take offence. I’m the guy that waits for the book to come out on DVD. Some people find a Shakespearean authored piece of work a turn on and others are more into pictures. May just be my level of maturity but why do I want to spend all day reading at work and come home and not be able to unwind because I have to read war and peace before I decide if it’s safe to send a hello!

This completely

Horses for courses and all that - I've had people tell me mine is too long and have had people tell me it's very well written and nicely detailed.

The ONLY person that needs to be completely happy with a profile is it's owner and I'm pretty much happy with mine - if others like it then great - if they don't then no skin off my nose

"How do you know that people have read them?"

You just assume they haven't unless they actually tell you they did... like when they tell you they just had to mail you to say yours was the most arrogant/conceited/boring profile they'd ever read and they regretted the waste of their precious time....

To which I reply: 'Hope you've at least had an egg on to boil while you took the additional time to mail me and read this reply then'

But in general most first messages from people are based on pics... Not profile text. Such is the shallow nature of Fab

Ours is quite long, but for a purpose! We need to let people know about us and if they can't be arsed to read our profile then that is up to them. And it also tells us that they are not right for us.

To be fair, we haven't had any meaningful contact on here for a while. Lots of single guys who obviously haven't read it. Maybe the lack of contact is because it is so long. So be it.. We get meets from other sites, so not a disaster.

I wrote to a couple once who had said ‘one liners and winks will be deleted’ - so I wrote a reasonably long personalised and respectful / polite email that demonstrated that I had read their profile.

Their reply? “If we wanted to read an essay we’d have bought a fu*king book. Cu*t!”

That just shows lack of class! My profile is longish and if you don’t read it we don’t chat. It’s not long out of someone’s day ffs.

It’s just manners.

And I always reply to a well written email, even when not interested. I delete the people that send me “hey” or “wanna meet today”

So I’m all for a good profile giving me details about the person and a feel for them.

Doesn’t that work better coming from a man?

"Mines a bit lengthy but I've had many lovely comments about it."

A bit..?

It is a lovely read but I would guess less than 20% have read it, although it would be their loss..

Mine's a couple of paragraphs, apparently it's reasonably long for a profile.

I worry about peoples attention spans if that is the case.

A 'bit' lengthy?! I'd say it was a lot lengthy

because I change the story every few months its actually shorter now the previous story added what was equivalent to 7 A4 pages "

If I was a dude I'd just message saying TL;DR, ain't nobody got time for dat!

I'm rubbish at percentage but maybe nearer 21%

All I know is I have many folks across the country who have enjoyed my stories because they message to say so. (currently on the third prose since joining)

If people only read the first paragraph, they won’t message us anyway, chances are those that do message us, have a sense of humour and have scanned through most of our profile

Is it attention span issues though? Women and couples often say they don't have time to reply to all their messages. Would people have time to read long profiles?

I don't care if people don't read my profile. It's a good filter.

Mine is long, and has no punctuation. So I just see who died of asphyxiation to know who read it

Agreed...ours isn’t long by comparison to some, but it gives people something to work with to construct a coherent message. If they can’t do that, we’re unlikely to be compatible. The message doesn’t have to be very long, as we appreciate short amusing ones for example.

Bitch says Twat’s is short and amusing btw...she’s well-named clearly...

So long as its reasonably short, poignant and articulated with no lazy text speak.

Their messages will reference things out of your profile....For my part most profiles just tell me, no chance there then.....

Mine's quite long, but it seems because I have included some humour some guys seem to like it!

It's nice if they read it, but I don't weep into my hanky if they don't

We don't mind a long profile if it's interesting to read, details about the person are not too important either as we like to find out about someone through messaging.

10 paragraphs of ranting, text talk and utter nonsense isn't for us. We can pretty much tell in the first few paragraphs if we are interested.
