Not for the first time, I’ve crafted a long message, asked some questions about the person, sent face pics and - got a message back!

“Wow!” I hear all men cry in shock.

The puzzling thing is, the reply to my message was simply “Hi”. This could make for a very long and drawn out conversation.

I wonder how this will pan out...

Preston

Is this a rant? If so you may want to pop over to the rant thread

Actually, maybe it would be better if you all just posted “Hi” on here, so I’ll know exactly what you are all thinking!

Hi.

No, not a rant at all - chuckling at it, really. It amused me.

Ah the old one or two word convos! I’ve had a few of those, they contact me first with ‘Hi’.

It tends to go

‘Hi’

‘Hello’

‘How’s you?’

‘Good thanks, day is a bit boring but it’s almost over! How about you, had a good day?’ (here I’ll try and at least start a meaningful conversation)

‘Yeah, good’

At this point I usually give up. What’s the point!? Why the hell did they message me in the first place!?!

I have to admit I'm guilty of this sometimes. Not if I've been asked questions though.

I find it hard to know what to write to a "hey I loved your profile, it would be great to chat" type message. I just say hi as a sign id like to chat too.

I think that’s fair enough if you’ve received a brief message; it acts as an acknowledgement of receipt and passing the baton back to the initiator of the message. But in this instance, I don’t really have a lot to add without further info to gauge compatibility, etc. (Their profile is equally brief).

Anyway, I won’t lose any sleep over it if nothing develops from this one exchange. We’ll see what happens.
