My sister still has milk delivered by the milkman in glass bottles

The cartons were not very environmentally friendly, worse than plastic bottles.

The plastic bottles can be easily recycled so long as people are willing to separate them and put into the correct bin.

The cartons have to go into the general waste bin and end up in landfill. They are cardboard coated in plastic and it is too costly and difficult to recycle them.

No such thing as recycling rubbish soon - China doesn't want anymore. The lot will carry on going into landfill

Another half baked idea that sounds good that doesn't happen to cope with the actual amount of waste we are forced to produce IMHO

Exactly this.

There is a small increase in a return to glass bottles but the supermarkets are unlikely to take them. However, with Iceland and Aldi committing to reducing plastic use it might start a trend.

It does, it’s about 90p a pint from our milkman. It’s £1 for 4 pints in the shops which incidentally is way too cheap. I’d rather pay more if the extra went to the farmers. They get paid something like 2p per pint by the supermarkets.

Waitrose pay 32p per litre. I don't buy a lot of milk but I will only buy it from farm shops linked to dairies (when I'm in the country) and Waitrose when I'm at home.

Oh we used to do that often I. The caravan. I can’t remember where the site(s) was/were. But I remember the bags and the blue jug vividly. I think it was in North Wales but can’t be certain

Weird.

I brought back a 1 litre glass milk bottle from the US, on my last trip.

Just because it was really simple, had a resealable top, and I can decant my milk from a plastic bottle, into it.

My relatives, in South Yorkshire, still get milk delivered in glass bottles.

The milkman will, also, deliver orange juice, eggs etc. with a monthly bill.

The OP got me thinking about how I could reduce my plastic consumption and I'm going to try and returning to bars of soap (well, non-soap).

Has anyone used any of the shampoo bars? Has anyone found a good conditioner bar?

I have big thick hair which can get very frizzy. Will a shampoo bar cope?

I prefer the Alpro original soya milk, the flavoured ones are ok in coffee, but they destroy a cup of tea!

I'm also a massive fan of Bamboo toothbrushes too! I've got one that allegedly has plant based bristles, which are fully biodegradable, and has outlasted any plastic toothbrush I've ever bought!? I normally have to replace them every month or so, as I'm a bit heavy handed, but this one's lasted over 3 months so far.

The 'struggling to open them' is a mute point.

The cartons come with a screw top now, check out the lactose free milk, almond milk, soya milk etc for what I mean. What do these have in common...all more expensive than normal cow's milk!

So it's cost.

I've started the plastic free bathing experiment.

If it lasts 2.5 x longer than the stuff in the bottles then it will cost about the same. If not, then it's going to cost me money to reduce my plastic footprint on the planet.

My hair looks ok but it smells odd (to me). I'll get used to it.
