.…if you’re about to Skype with a couple and the Skype name they give doesn’t match either name on the profile, so you google it and it brings up the name of a professor at a Finnish university, am I justified blocking and reporting them?

You won't know until you try it. Cover your camera until you see who is on the other end of the camera. Ask questions that they must answer verbally; not typed.

Or, just block them and forget about them

Perhaps use Google reverse image or tineye to check their pics if they have them. Is their fab name a Finnish professor?

A lot of people use fake names on here. They also have names that match other people in the world.

I'd give it a go but as stated above cover your cam at first.

I'd say one half of you is paranoid n the other not . The black out of eyes in pic of one of you. If people know one of you. Chance they'll know other.
