People who live interdependent lives and rely on their strong social bonds to support one another. The Forums are a Tribe of a sort. There are also Tribes within the Forum Tribe. Some are negative, some positive, some neutral. Historically most Tribes of people have been divided by ethnicity, so I do see where you are coming from and you make a good point. It doesn't have to be that way and isn't always that way, now we live in a multicultural society. A cricket club in Birmingham could have a strong team based sense of Tribalism. With members who have roots in Trinidad, the Bahamas, Poland, India, Pakistan, English, Welsh, Scotland etc. It's the love of Cricket that brings them together and forms a sense of Tribalism. They compete against other Tribes, but with a sense of fair play and a belonging to the wider Tribal Culture of Cricket as a whole. It doesn't have to be racist or involve racism or division in any way.. not now. Maybe we're both right? | |||

I'd rather it was something I never have to encounter. I've been on the receiving end of open racism directed at me when I lived in Nigeria and the Middle East. Simply for just being White and/or British. In Venezuela it was because they thought I was American, but were fine when they realised I was British. In Spain because I was British. I'm not sure if picking on me due to my Nationality, not my skin colour counts as racist.. but it's a discrimination and treatment I didn't like, felt intimidated and bullied because of, been physically hurt over it.
I'd know how hard it is living your life in a country where the majority of the society is based on values, customs and a belief system different to that of your own. Where there is an indirect racist undercurrent. Where youre only viewed as attractive for the benefit you can bring to them and nothing else. Where you are viewed as a different kind of person, lower or outright ignored altogether. However, I've had the advantage of living a priveledged childhood and my parents could afford the lifestyle that kept us away from the majority of the worst of what an indirectly racist society can throw at you. Like openly racist slurs like matey boys utter dribble.
I don't know what it must feel like to live in a society where people of my skin colour or ethnicity have been treated like animals and commodities to be bought, sold, tortured and used like their lives meant nothing.
I have empathy by the bucketloads, but I don't think that's a position you can imagine yourself to be in, it's something you've either grown up experiencing, or you haven't.
