Dream house...

Edinburgh

I was thinking about my week away next week and living two floors up means I have 400* trips to pack the car and I was thinking that I’d really like a little cottage in the country.

Are you in your dream house already? What’s it like? If not, what would your dream house be like?

*slight exaggeration but I never travel light

Not my dream house but it’s ideal at the moment - my dream house is more where I’d like to retire to and spend the autumn of my life

By the sea, secluded not a tourist trap.

A nice seating area looking over the sea (has to be a sandy beach). Big family kitchen with a sofa in so the kids can be comfy while we cook dinner, cosy lounge with big sofas that you sink into. A games room for Ads to play his nerd games and a hobby room for me.

Oooooh and a shoe room, there HAS to be a shoe room for my shoes I will never where but I can sit and look at them!

Geeky x

So much dreamier than my 2 up 2 down

Blanche. I love that name. I used to go to school with a Blanche I was so jealous of that name. Now it reminds me of a crusty old gran like Blanche from Corrie. A wearer can ruin a name.

I have seen it. Loved it (and love seeing you back). As to perfect house, mine would be if I ever could ever afford to finish doing it up. Or become good at doing it myself, which I think is possibly a learning curve too far and is more likely to end up in me fucking it up even more in the attempt.

Yep, bought my dream home last summer. First saw it 20 odd years ago and said I’d have it one day.

I’ve completely renovated it and now working on the outside

My dream house changes all the time depending on what's currently available on Rightmove - I do love a bit of property porn!

It'd feel safe, be safe for my cats too, have enough space for a huge number of bookshelves, a large enough kitchen so that things didn't drop on my head when I opened a cupboard and a proper wet room with a walk in rain shower, plus an enormous bath. A mid size private garden would be good too

No the one in Spain is nice but by no means my dream place. Over there I did the work on the outside space first, that’s where i spend most of my time.

This one is in Liverpool.

That sounds like my dream house too. I’d like a proper stone dyke round the garden and little square paned windows. With honeysuckle growing round the outside.

There's this house I've always loved. It's in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood in NYC. It's right on the Brooklyn Promenade (best known for its stunning views of Manhattan).

The house itself is an enormous old brownstone but it has a garden and it's own little greenhouse off to the side. The streets around it are cobble stone and the blocks are tree lined.

I used to see it all the time as a kid when I'd walk to the Promenade. I've always loved it. Probably costs over $8 million these days, though.

I live in a cute cottage now but wish it had a thatched roof and a bit more space. It still needs lots doing and I have no central heating but have a lovely open fire It's tiny and I can almost touch the ceilings but I love it! My dream home is one of the big mansions up the road though!

...Up on the Downs

I lived in a dream home once - rambling place in the Cotswolds with copper beech hedges in front and a wisteria-laden patio out the back with fabulous view and stables at the bottom of the garden...sigh.

A cosy hovel will do me now - as long as I have lots of land outside and an open fire to snuggle in front of, I'll be happy.

I live in another work in progress.

It’s 17th century and would be many people’s idea of a dream house with its 8’ wise inglenook fireplace and flag stone floors.

I just see it as another step towards retiring early.

Achingly beautiful factory built house with light glass and every eco you can think of.

But I still think an old rickety farmhouse maybe even a thatch with that sense of time and place and history surrounded by fields and trees near a beach or next to a rivet eould always win for me.

Not meeting

I’m nowhere near my dream house. I hate my current house - currently decorating it to make it mine & Frank’s. Kids refuse to move & educationally it makes sense to say.

I’d love my great aunt’s house near Musselburgh. A love big bungalow near the sea with an easy journey into the city.

But having spent time with Frank’s family country life is growing on me.

Practically I can see me moving into my parents house, then buying a little 2 bed opposite & somewhere in Edinburgh we can all use

B x
