Surely the opposite of homophobia is being gay! Stands to reason, you hate gays, homophobic. You love gays, your gay.

Next!!

You're not gay if you love gays!

Appreciating an individuals personal qualities without judging their sexuality makes you liberal.

so if someone put

'it takes 2 straight people to make 1 gay person. 2 bad for 1 good'

How would you see that comment.

Please dont get me wrong i love my friend but for some reason this comment has irked me somewhat, thought i would vent on here rather than on his facebook lol

is it right for someone who fights so hard for acceptance on a number of issues to make such comments about straight people?

An ex of mine decided to turn lesbian (if you knew her like I do you would understand me saying she decided to), anyway bisexuality was mentioned and her reply was 'we don't like bisexuals, you're one or the other' I replied 'it's funny how turning lesbian has brought out such bigotry in you', she didn't used to look down her nose like that at anyone, she was very 'PC'

I've noticed amongst gay friends, I'm often the butt of jokes amongst them because I'm bi. A lot feel the same way, that you are one or the other. I find it very odd, for a group that are continually having to fight for equal rights to be so bigoted.

This is massive in the lesbian community,i had many women explain to me why i cudnt like men...they took the worst of femininsm and turned it into an anti male agenda.

Bigots of every sort exist. What is interesting about the term heterophobia is it seems to have 2 very different uses.

1.Bigotry against heterosexual people

2.Whining about any attempts to rebalance the heternormative society to give gay people a fair deal.

1 is prejudice,2 is just whining and as yo may have noticed i have little time for that

I can understand some lesbians being anti men and to some extent i wouldn't condemn them for that but i've seen too how they can be with bi women and it is a very bigoted attitude. You have to put it in context though as many are in acceptance too and its the minority who are like that.

It is a minority i agree, but it was still annoying to have my sexuality dismissed ,especially by people who had experienced the very same prejudice!

A male bi-sexual friend of ours had to endure a gay man telling him he was a disease carrier becuse he slept with women & men. What made it worse though is that it was later found out that this "gay" man had been in a partnership with a woman we know for 7yrs and had also been caught wanking to straight porn by his husband.

years ago i went to a meeting of a support group for gay people of either sex at the request of an ex girlfriend who was BI but had previously been in a lesbian relationship.

This group was funded by the local council (who i will not name - it snot the one i live in)

I asked the council organiser was there any support groups for Bi people, and was told the following

If you in a relationship with a same sex partner we would consider you gay, so adequate provision is provided,

if you are in a relationship with the opposite sex, we would consisder you straight and therefore no need for provision of any kind of support

By support I mean help in fighting prejuedice against sexual orientation

Amazing...why the surprise?

We're a pretty liberal community right? We never make derogatory remarks about others on here do we that's why we find a gay man's comment "shocking".

Hmmm

Discovering the term bi was a genuine lifesaver for me in my teens.i thought there was something wrong with me and felt i did not fit in.

When i got involved with the gay soc at uni(the first gay and lesbian group in the country, set up after the stonewall riots) one of my proudest moments was getting bi added to the title.

There is more support out there today thankfully

As stated previously the surprise comes from the fact that this person fights for inclusion for all in many areas of life, his sexuality, disabilities, schooling for his god children etc and so I was SURPRISED when he made a comment about straight people being bad.

Bigots are found in every groups of people, most use it to try and defend their 'Way'

Simple test, substitute the offending word in a statement for another and does cause offence to another group?

I think its disrespectful to his parents and hope they have no knowledge of it.

And bigotry exists in all sectors of society, why would gay people be exempt from being like that, on occasion.

Thankfully we can chose to see it as an individual behaving badly rather than, "Is it cos I is gay"!

Amen to that.

Makes me laugh really, if it were not for heterosexuals there would be no gays.

So why diss the parents?

I love the way gay men (in particular) hate bisexual people.

The usual slur is "Make yer fucking mind up".

To which I always think "Why?"
