"“Here they are, They’re so appealing, Come on Dollies, Do your dealing!” So said Brucey introducing the “Dolly Dealers” on tv’s “Play your cards right!” Back in the day most people didn’t bat an eyelid - in today’s enlightened era I’d imagine there would be an uproar if they did that on Primetime telly! The Darts PC thread got me thinking - what *used* to be largely accepted “back in the day” that most would deem wholly unacceptable today? Bonus points for the first person to mention Alf Garnett! " Think I better stay quiet for this one

One of the most cringeworthy examples being 'On The Buses' where the mini-skirted, false-eyelashed 20-something 'dolly birds' would simper and swoon at the greasy haired, snaggle toothed, cerebrally challenged and *much* much older supposed 'lotharios' who were Stan and Jack. Widely accepted or not, even as a kid, I found these unlikely encounters horribly creepy. Benny Hill felt similarly wrong. " I think in 20 years time we'll look at double entendres which so many seem to be acceptable in children's plays, pantomime, school dramas, nativity plays etc etc to pander to the parental audience. A humour now being widely used innaproppriately imo. I feel it reflects more the lack if quality if good humour but a cheap easy way to get a smile.

As long as it is actually funny.. But then I find carry on movies very funny. I was thinking to myself "really get a grip" when some mums were whinging about the The jokes in Dick Whittington and the use of the word dick. Sorry but I would have been more concerned if my under 8 year old got the double meaning . as apparently many were. " I think most 8 year olds of any generation would get the double meaning of the word "dick" - I know I certainly knew it's alternate meaning at that age. I think in the case of the Manchester pantomime though they took it too far with chants of "Alice wants her Dick" being encouraged, Wee Jimmy Crankie (essentially a schoolboy when in character) waggling his finger out of his flies to emulate a penis and having his/her breasts fondled. I'm the first to rail against PC gone mad but in that instance it was taken too far and I am not surprised parents were up in arms. Done well the type of humour aimed at adults in pantomimes and Carry On etc is very good (we saw Jack & The Beanstalk this year and the lead was behind time prompting the line "Eee Jack you're late" from the dame - cue titters from the adults and a whoosh sound as it went over the head of the kids) but there is a very fine line

"How did the A-Team, after escaping the aforementioned shed full of tools, manage to let loose several hundered bullets without actually killing anyone?" This is a good point and not only that, how could the team be sure that blowing the enemies cars and vans onto their sides (often with such force that the said vehicles would spin 360 degrees whilst in the air!) would not kill the occupants? Having said this, I do miss the tyre level side camera action shots which became a staple on the show though

Just take a look at this thread for perfect examples of things we're well rid of and a lot of those things have helped not only women but have helped promote a lot of other causes too. As for the minority winning, the abolition of a lot of the things mentioned in this thread isn't as a result of a minority action else it wouldn't have happened.

"And let's cut even CLOSER to the bone with the very first episode of Rising Damp. The immortal line in conversation used by Rigsby (The great Leanord Rossiter) addressing Philip (Don Warrington) "Oh aye...There any more of your sort coming over then"? Absolute genius, you'd be SHOT for even attempting to recreate that now!!!" Philip always got the better of Rigsby, I liked that!
