Comics you read as a kiddie

Me? The Beano and Nutty as a regular weekly subscription. Had a brief flirtation with a more serious one called Champ until it was discontinued. Occasional dalliance with Whizzer & Chips (I was a Chipite rather than a Whizz kid!) and then Beezer.

I also used to take a sneaky look at my sisters ‘Jackie’ magazine and got quite an education about periods and sex from the problem page!

What comics / magazines did YOU read as a kiddie?

My grandad gave me money every Saturday so I could get my Transformers comic, as well as Spiderman and Zoids.

My Nan and Grandad used to buy me two a week but one had to be educational - so used to have Victor (and later Warlord) and Look & Learn (which never really got read)

Then progressed onto Shoot and Match Weekly - and always had a read of my younger brother's Roy Of The Rovers and Whizzer & Chips.

Others I'd get on an occasional basis were Beano, Dandy, Topper and for longer car journeys I'd be allowed a Commando or two to keep me occupied

I started with Twinkle when I was little, then moved on to Misty and Scream as I was obsessed with the supernatural. I always read my brother's Shoot and Match too.

In secondary school Jackie, Smash Hits, Just Seventeen and More were shared around the classroom

Actually if the likes of Jackie, Just 17, Shoot and Match Weekly count as comics then another not mentioned is Smash Hits - the go to magazine for any teenage music fan before realising the likes of NME, Record Mirror and Melody Maker were better

I collected The Beano from the age of five to ten and I think I got Girl Talk from maybe 7 to 10.

Shout, Mizz and Bliss were from 11-14, though my mum banned me from buying Sugar (because of the sex problem pages) and More (because of the sex in general) so I just borrowed them off one of my friends instead.

Yeah Commando was the one (see my earlier post) and they're actually still going today - flicked through one in Smith's recently - was a similar one called Battle I think but wasn't quite as good.

As for jumble sales - car boots, eBay and charity shops did away with those
