Walk On Girls

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

The Professional Darts Corporation has decided to stop using walk on girls at all darts games.

The Women’s Sports Federation is hoping that other sports that use them or grid girls will follow suit.

A lot of men and women are not happy about this and think the women that do these jobs aren’t forced to do it and by stopping them, are making them unemployed.

I’ve been reading the comments on Twitter.

Should they be removed or should the women be allowed to carry on parading around?

It's a bit cheesy to be honest, but there does seem to be a drive to sanitise all female sexuality from everything these days.

Are we still doing the diet adverts and hunky guys at events?

Oh this will be interesting!

My personal view is that both men and women should be able to do whatever job they wish to do and that they have the skills to perform.

If there weren’t people to fill such positions then they would just disappear I guess. Why we need to make a giant deal out of the indignation from people who will most likely never go to a Darts competition is beyond me.

A bit like page 3 - if there is supply and demand then it carries on. I don’t really care either way. If a lady wants to get her tits out for the paper and men want to look then good for them. If I don’t like it I wouldn’t buy the paper. Seems pretty straightforward to me. I’m not gonna protest the ladies and their right to do the job they want to do. No-one is forcing them.

Pretty sure holding a piece of card above their heads dressed in a bikini is not their only job. They are often models. They won't be unemployed.

Freedom of choice? If anyone wants a job to show their glamour a one exists where the are not exploited (like any other job) why not let them?

It's a bit like Katie Price making her fortune then taking legal action saying it was degrading.

People have to be protected, but let's not turn to hysteria and start a puritanical regime.

It's a tricky one this... I like a bit of eye candy, as much as the next guy, but have to admit that it is a bit misogynistic. Just giving the male spectators someone to leer over.

You never actually get to see them on the televised boxing though. No idea about Darts, as I don't watch it. My inner misogynist cries a little as the camera pans away..

Maybe look up the meaning for misogyny, it's got nothing to do with eye candy.

On another note, if women are being sexualised for the gratification of men then this should be stoped regardless of whether the women want to do it or not. Society has a responsibility to itself to improve.

Women should stop wanting sex or being sexual in any way, shape or form.

They are only there for men's benefit to ogle and wank over.

Doesn't matter if the women get off on it or enjoy it. It's WRONG.

But I’m also assuming they get paid to do this and are not forced or co-erced to do it. They probably even have to apply and be interviewed just like any other job.

I don’t see much point in it as a “job” but who am I to judge? Getting rid just for the sake of it is PC gone seriously mad!

Then what are you doing on a site such as this, it has lots of women that want a quick fuck, lots of explicit pictures and many other things that look like they are demeaning to women.

I’m speaking as a women, I like the attention of men, I like a quick fuck as much as I like spending a whole evening in the company of men.

If other people find that offensive, then it’s tough, pass it by.

I’m not forced to do it, I enjoy it, if I was asked to do a ‘walk on part’ I would do it under my own free will.

My husband does not control me, he respects me.

As a feminist and a women I disagree with other people telling me I should behave in such a way that pleases them and their way of society should be.

I’m a consenting adult that expresses my sexuality, the way I feel what is right.

I do not need other people to tell me that it’s wrong.

Rant over

Happy fabbing and have a naughty Saturday night.

So that's a paper we're talking about darts. Not everyone including some men want to see a half naked woman parading around before a darts match. Give me a hunky guy any day of the week, preferably in their 40's to admire.

Where does this stop?

Make new coca cola adverts, so the bloke can't drink his drink with his shirt off?

Oh well rugby starts up next week ladies, lets hope they cover their thighs up as whenever rugby gets mentioned here vs football that's what gets brought up instead of the sport itself.

I have no problem with walk on girls or grid girls, I have a huge problem with exploiting women or men just because they are attractive.

Give the choice to the employee and if they are offended it's completely understandable.

Perhaps there should be a union to safeguard the standards and pay that they work for

If they want to do it then cool but they should get paid decently.

If I was a young hottie I'd much rather stand in a bikini holding a placard for an hour or so than work in a factory.

Even the tv camera focus ' s on the player but you do see a glimpse of the girl. That's all.

When she's on the stage she stands there but that's about it.

I don't find it derogatory towards them nor do I think it's sleazy.

If they did get rid of them I'd still enjoy the darts.

I presume darts has a predominantly heterosexual male audience hence the walk on girls, I see no problem with that.

If there was a sport with a predominantly heterosexual female audience and they had walk on guys then it wouldn't bother me one bit either.

It’s a difficult one isn’t it. Whilst I subscribe to the fact that men and women should be free to choose whatever industry they choose/qualify to work in. However there can be an over sexualisation in certain male perceived industries such as boxing/f1/wrestling...... I again personally don’t think it’s the grid girls.... the ring walkers..... the cheer leaders..... that sexualise these industries but rather the observer and the escapism in observing these sports. It’s all part of relax, imagine, feel part of, enjoy, gambling environment created. Just to throw into the mix here for every man who will sexualise a woman there’s a woman who will sexualise herself for a gain in some perspective. Sex is a commodity whether you like it or not. The individuals that need support are the individuals that don’t want to be in that position and feel manipulated into there’s no choice/alternative for them. Men and women who choose to do what they like because it benefits them in anyway then hats off to you..... crack on

Got to love the comments section in the 'Daily Mail'...

On the one hand, you have men raging against the 'Feminazis', the 'Loony Left' and the 'PC Brigade', claiming that they are denying these ladies' right to 'do whatever job they choose'...

Then in same breath, those same men rage against the BBC and other media outlets for 'ramming women's football [and other women's sports] down their throats'...

So according to these men, they support the right of women to stand around and look pretty while men play sport, but not to have their own sporting events accorded television coverage...

First off, NO ONE is telling these women that it's wrong for them to pursue modelling careers; their agents will simply have to find them new gigs.

Second, if we're going to go down the line of portraying the 'walk on girls' as an example of 'female empowerment', an 'expression of female sexuality' or a 'feminist' job choice, then we need to ask one key question.

Namely:

Why are women only permitted to 'empower' themselves or 'express their sexuality' by way of choosing to work as walk-on girls if they are young, tall, slim, 'classically' beautiful and able-bodied?

Many of the people calling for the reinstatement of the walk-on girls CLAIM to support the right for women to work in whatever job they choose.

Yet the 'walk-on girl' is a job from which the vast majority of women are excluded: not on the basis of competence or ability, but because they are judged to be 'too short', 'too fat', 'too old', or 'not pretty enough'.

Walk down any busy high street on a Saturday, and you'll see any number of 'average' guys carrying signs advertising all manner of shops and services.

If a short, fat, bald, middle-aged man carrying a plywood sign can drum up business for Subway in Exeter City Centre, then why shouldn't a short, fat, middle-aged woman be considered able to advertise William Hill or Ladbrokes as a 'walk-on girl'?

They Aren’t needed. They bring nothing to the game of darts.

The PDC have chosen not to use them anymore and whatever their reason for that is, surely it should be respected.

I’m sure the racist comedians of the 1970’s loved their jobs and weren’t being forced to do it, but their employers chose to stop using them.

Times change and so do peoples opinions.
