Hello gang,

When going out on a date, who should pay, The Gentleman or do you go dutch?

What does everyone think?

I've got my own opinion but I'll keep it to myself, till the conversation gets going.

Why should ladies pay?

There are no rules about who pays, do what makes you both feel comfortable.

For example if the guy I’m with goes to pay I would offer to pay my half, if he declines I’ll accept and say I’ll pay next time.

There and to the left a bit

If we're talking Fab meets then 50/50 all the way - I wouldn't want the people I am meeting to feel beholden to me in any way if I paid or think that I have any expectation because I have done so.

Equally, I’m more than happy to pay too!!. But whatever feels right. If it’s a second date & they paid last time, I’m definitely paying this one! But I’d always offer to split or take turns

Yeah quite blooming right, you want to date us then pay for the privilege .

I do actually like the guy to at least pay for the first drink, then I'll obviously get the next and take turns or share the cost of any meals and so on.

On a date, If she offers to pay half I’ll say it’s my treat and pay.

If she makes no attempt to pay anything I’ll say let’s split it or ask if she wants to pick up the tab.

If you meet a girl in a bar and she arrives first and gets herself a drink but not you. Walk away. She’s selfish and it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This is a minefield for the modern Twat...I have always paid if there is a mismatch in resources available, but with somebody who earns an equivalent or greater salary, we have discussed it first...I dated a strong and relatively wealthy feminist once, and she insisted on paying...I just went with the flow on that...

That’s what text messaging is for. If in doubt get the man a pint!

If I arrive first I’ll always buy the lady a drink. If I don’t know what she likes I’ll take a guess at a glass of wine. Nothing worse than after meeting someone having to go que at the bar.

That’s the litmus test for me. If she fails I doubt I’ll being seeing her again.

I fully agree with paying 50/50 on a date but what about if you go to a club as a couple? Say it's £20 for couples and £5 or free for ladies, should I pay £10 to halve the couple cost although I could get in cheaper on my own?

First date would be for a drink and we both pay. I don't like going for dinner with a man, but I would want to pay my part. Men tend to want an argument over who pays, which I don't like.

I would always offer to go 50/50. If I wasn't so sure about them I'd insist so I didn't feel like I owed them another date or anything. If I liked them and they insisted on paying I'd let them but with a comment along the lines of "ok, but that means you have to let me buy you dinner next time"

Why do you think the OP means with people on here? Some people do call a social a date though. It's pretty much like a date, with the possibility of sex or a sexual relationship after.

I’d be inclined to say that ‘lady’ isn’t a word I’d use to describe someone who uses a guy she’s not interested in to get a nice meal by going on a date with him!

Now I kinda know what you mean, but I don’t want a guy choosing a drink for me which I may not like, that's just a waste of money and a but arrogant to me,I really don't see an issue with going back to the bar which I'd do myself and get my own drink.

This would never happen anyway as I meet people outside the pub incase the bugger doesn't turn up,then I'd just leave.

My natural instinct is to pay. It's just the way I am. Having said that if I feel like I am being taken advantage of or my kindness is taken for weakness I won't be paying again.

Yes this. I am old school and if a guy wants to treat me, I graciously let him. Sometimes I want to treat someone, and then they accept graciously too. Sometimes I like to buy a friend a surprise present if he has been generous to me. It all works fine!

There's something off putting about mean men.

It may be old fashioned to some but on a first date I'd expect the man to pay as he invited me out. The next time I'd pick up the tab or split it.

"I fully agree with paying 50/50 on a date but what about if you go to a club as a couple? Say it's £20 for couples and £5 or free for ladies, should I pay £10 to halve the couple cost although I could get in cheaper on my own?"

An interesting thought - but conversely as it's usually more expensive for single men, should he have to pay more if he's accompanying you?

Say it's £40 for single men - he'd be more out of pocket than you would be in your example

I wouldn't date a female who expected me to pay the bill/tab whatever.

That's because I believe all people are equal and should act accordingly.

hiding from cock pics.

If we are going for drinks or a meal I will always offer to pay half, I do feel it is chivalrous if it is refused, but I always go with the intention and funds to pay my way.

The bit that bothers me is, when I go to a club with a guy, and because of the way of the world, some clubs are free for the lady and expensive for the guy, but it's cheaper as a couple than for the guy alone.

I would be happy for him to come in with me as a couple, if we are a playing that night as a couple, but I don't really see why I should pay half, and I do feel some guys try to take you to a club purely to get in cheaper and still expect you to pay half of the cheaper price.

If it is a bring your own drinks club I will always bring the drinks for both of us, and if not I was always get a few rounds in if he is happy with that.

I have even had suggestions such as, I will give you a lift if you pay for the door fee.

That to me is taking the mickey a little bit.

They never get a second meet.

If it is a regular playmate,

or fwb, I am glad to pay half, if he would like to as I feel we are a legitimate couple and that changes the dynamic for me.

But what if (for example) you are employed in a good job and she is a single mum on benefits? Does that change it? Surely it’s unfair to ask someone to pay for something they can’t afford?"

Yeah if I like the woman I'll keep paying. If not then I wouldn't see her again.

That was her point. It's £20 cheaper for the guy to pay the full couple price, but more expensive for her if she went half. So, the guy should just pay it.

I never let a man pay for me on the first date. And all subsequent dates should be paid for in turns. But I like a man to OFFER to pay the bill, in its entirety, every time.

The best people, I find, are those with whom you have a little fight, over who gets to pay, because we BOTH want to!

Any man who asks if I want to split the bill, or even worse, expects me to pay without offering, I wouldn’t meet again.

Tightness is a real pet-hate. In my experience it’s indicative of other unpleasant traits.

If you meet a girl in a bar and she arrives first and gets herself a drink but not you. Walk away. She’s selfish and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. "

Wow, that's quite an idea you've got there. So what, if the lady arrives first or her date is late, she is just supposed to sit there, waiting? And get everyone, staff in particular, looking at her like she's a weirdo? If the situation was reversed, would you not get yourself a drink while waiting???

Just two different ways of looking at it I guess - either way if you're going as a couple and intending to stay as a couple while at the club then the couples rate split down the middle would be the way to go in my book

But why the need for so many rules who should do what; what's acceptable if; etc.

It's always simple if two people meet for whatever reason are we not all grown up enough to decide between us such details without the need to follow any "rule book".

Well, since men allowed women to vote and let them burn their bra's for equality and equal pay/rights.. It's only reasonable to ask them to pay if you're not flush. I like to ask them to hold doors open for me as well and if they pull my chair out for me before I sit down, they'll get extra brownie points and maybe I'll let them cum first later on if I allow her to have sex with me.

If you insist on going to KFC or McDonalds, you can pay.

If we meet up in a restaurant that I like, I'll be footing the bill.

Only had one "date" and the lady paid for the meal. I felt awkward because my natural inclination was to offer to pay but the lady in question appeared to be the type that didn't go for that old fashioned gender role of paying. Although I did insist on paying for subsequent meal, second "date" just never happened.

"What if a married man who is not cheating, has a meet at a hotel with a single female swinger. Who pays? "

What's someone's marital status got to do with it?

I always do it as however asked for the date pays. I only invite people out for a meal if I can cover the whole cost and assume people would do the same. Why invite someone out if you can't afford to pay for them? If after the first date the other person offers to pay for some I may let them pay for the drinks and I cover the rest but never any more than that. If they are taking me out then I will offer to pay for my own after the first date but splitting 50/50 never works out fair unless you ate and drank exact same things.

You're not one of those people that sit there and add up exactly what their meal cost are you? "

"On a date, If she offers to pay half I’ll say it’s my treat and pay.

If she makes no attempt to pay anything I’ll say let’s split it or ask if she wants to pick up the tab.

If you meet a girl in a bar and she arrives first and gets herself a drink but not you. Walk away. She’s selfish and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. "

Lord! If I arrived early enough to be there first I'd buy myself a drink to get over the shock! How shit would it look to be sitting there nursing a glass of water until you arrived to buy me a drink!!

Shared bills all the way, unless we're starting to be a regular friends.
