Excellent scheme, go on the website, find what car you want and visit the nearest dealer. Delivered to your house in anything from a few days to a few weeks.

Motability is fantastic, my mum has a car through the scheme.

Google motability to find out more, I can't share the link (I did that once before for someone and got a forum timeout for my trouble).

If you receive the higher rate of the mobility component you will qualify for it. They take this part of your pip/dla off you to pay for the car. You are allowed 2 named drivers, I was added onto my mum's car as soon as I passed my driving test. If you want extra named drivers you have to pay for them to be added.

Some cars have an upfront payment, others are no upfront payment. You keep the car for 3 years and then you get another one. When it is time for a new car you drop the old one off at the dealership when you fetch your new one. They will inspect the old car and if it is returned in good condition you get £250 back in a few weeks from motability.

At present you cannot have a hybrid or electric vehicle on the scheme but this may change in the future.

All servicing, tyres, breakdown cover, insurance etc is included and you don't pay road tax. All you have to do is put the fuel in!

If you plan to take the car abroad you need to contact motability to tell them and get a certificate to say you are allowed to do so. This is the same as any leased car because you don't own it.

Hope this helps a bit

somewhere in the Shire of Derby

I've been on the scheme for 20 years, it's a life saver for me or i would be house bound. Well worth using the mobility component to pay for it.

Yorky is absolutely spot on with this, my mate has this, he even had the option to drive a merc but sadly the merc was too low for him, he opted for a 4x4 C60 Volvo, might be a C70

The garage even collects it for services and zero charge for servicing

He had a slow puncture, took it to quick fit and they put a complete new tyre on free of charge, part of the mobility scheme

I believe it is very good for disabled people and allows them out, rather than the worry of buses etc

Thank you everybody for replying. I took her to our local dealers , ford and vauxhall and she test drove a focus and a mokka. Decided on the mokka. Good old dad will pay a little deposit for the car. I had never really given motability any thought. My daughter has a spinal condition but only ever got the middle rate of dla but had a pip interview a few weeks ago and got a letter today saying she is entitled to the enhanced pip. She is over the moon. So know more struggling to get into her old punto...or my leon.

Another thing to remember is your daughter doesn't necessarily have to be using the vehicle personally, a named driver can use it for picking up shopping or prescriptions things like that.
