I thought it was a joke when I first saw the ads... well, not a joke but a play on words, like a sexual health awareness campaign... What actually is it?

All their site says is its a lattery which is specifically designed to raise money for local health causes

I just found this to maybe explain it....

*****************************

A brand new Health Lottery game has been announced by Richard Desmond, the business tycoon who owns a wide range of media outlets, including the Daily Express, Daily Star, the Channel 5 television station and OK! magazine. The Health Lottery will not be associated in any way with existing national lottery games and is not meant to compete with Lotto and the like. Instead, the game will be completely separate to existing games and its aim will be to raise money specifically for health charities.

The Health Lottery is still very much in the pre-launch stage, but Mr Desmond did provide a few details of what we can expect when the game goes live. Tickets will be priced at £1 each and will give players the chance to win prizes described as ‘life-changing’. 20.5p of every £1 that is generated from ticket sales will go to health charities and it is anticipated that at least £50 million will be raised for these each year.

Some people might see the phrase ‘health lottery’ and immediately criticise the idea, believing that healthcare in the UK should be the sole responsibility of the government. However, the Health Lottery is not designed to ‘prop up’ the National Health Service, but to help fund projects that the NHS doesn’t get involved in to start with. The Health Lottery is therefore a genuine community-focused entity (money will be distributed to regional charities spread across the whole of the UK) which all lottery players should be happy to embrace.

There will be one Health Lottery draw each week and we expect that at least a few of Mr Desmond’s media outlets will be used to promote the game and provide coverage of the draw results when the time comes. Of course, when further details are announced later this year we will be sure to pass them onto you without delay

way too many lotterys and scratch cards now. its all so confusing. they should just have one sat lottery and maybe juat a few cards so people identfy with them without them changing and adding every few weeks to get more money

Oooo interesting

I though all money over price money went to charity

I know each week the % of claimed money will differ but what i want to know is if say one week 40% of the money is claimed, another week 60%, another week 57%, you get the picture, but only 20.5p of every £1 is going to any charity wheres the rest of the money going?

I think if they are selling this lottery on the basis its for charity and people are buying a ticket believing their money is going to charity they should state where ALL the money is going

I dont do the lottery exept if the euro one is high amount.

Never bought a scratch card.

My step dads dad one spot the ball, he won three cars and 110 thousand pounds and that was about 33 years ago so couldbe equivalent to 1/2 a million now

For every £1 ticket, The National Lottery gives 28p to charity, while The Health Lottery gives 20p. Not such a big difference.

Central

I don't like organisations that have vague claims of donating money to charity, whilst keeping silent on their own motivations, such as making their own profit. Our NHS is sacred, and no-one deserves really to be profiting from people who may otherwise donate the same money to a real charity, where 100% of the cash goes to the needy etc, such as to help children suffering from cancer. I'm not using this lottery until I know more.

Also, their ads are so tacky, they really deter me too.
