I know that the forum is supposed to be a bit of fun and banter - and I take the OP as intending that - but there are very real racists out there and also on this very site... people who adopt this ideology and rhetoric without question.

Very simplistic that I`m afraid. Of course we are all mongrels - but the immigrants you refer to in this context were Roman, Saxon, Angles, Jutes, Vikings,Normans and Irish - all of whom inter-bred, resulting in the "English" we have now. You might also notice, for example, we don't have hundreds of thousands of people speaking Scandanavian languages.

Without doubt, a significant number of current immigrants have absolutely no intention of integrating as past immigrants have. Instead, they speak their own language, rarely inter-marry and generally are divisive in their nature (I am sick to death of the number of places that now ONLY use halal meat for example).

Not going to get dragged into the whole debate but if you cannot see that a significant number never wish to integrate, then you are choosing not to see it.

Of course we are all mongrels - but the immigrants you refer to in this context were Roman, Saxon, Angles, Jutes, Vikings,Normans and Irish - all of whom inter-bred, resulting in the "English" we have now. You might also notice, for example, we don't have hundreds of thousands of people speaking Scandanavian languages.

Without doubt, a significant number of current immigrants have absolutely no intention of integrating as past immigrants have. Instead, they speak their own language, rarely inter-marry and generally are divisive in their nature (I am sick to death of the number of places that now ONLY use halal meat for example).

Not going to get dragged into the whole debate but if you cannot see that a significant number never wish to integrate, then you are choosing not to see it.

I love this country. People are allowed to say whatever they like. But more wonderfully people are allowed to be offended. That's the beauty of modern democracy - actively vocalising how annoyed they are. Thus opening debate.

Yup. I have three mates in Sweden and they say same thing. It has changed a LOT in last five years. Massively increased crime rates, the biggest per capita influx of refugees in Europe, 90% of whom are unemployed and unemployable according to official Swedish government statistics as no qualifications and don't speak the language, who a are supported by benefits which has led Sweden to go from an economic surplus to the biggest debt in its history, no go zones where police, fire service and postal deliveries have stopped due to grenade attacks, guns and violence from migrants, the biggest rate of r*pe in Europe, men banned from music festivals because of Muslim gang r*pe gangs (taharrush - look it up) , the list goes on.

Apparently it was nothing like this ten years ago.

People choose to come to Britain for a better life.

Some people come to Britain because they despise everything we stand for and wish to punish innocent for worhipping a different deity.

Some people choose to integrate with whatever country they choose to call home.

Some people wish to recreate the rules and customs of their country of origin.

Sometimes the rules and customs of the country of origin go against common law in the country of residence. Do we accept it under the banner of acceptance?

In my humble and white priveleged position, I do believe it completely wrong for those who choose to ignore our laws and customs hides behind cultural diversity.

We have a rich and diverse culture that is borne from acceptance and integration. That is quite seperate from assimilation.

We do not demand that everyone who moves here converts to christianity. We do expect all people (of all races and cultures) to be able to move freely and go about their business without fear of intimidation or crime.

The OP asked the question if all immigrants are terrorists.

Some are, some aren't.

It is prejudiced to assume all are.

It is also naive to assume that all aren't.

Look back to the suspicion we had towards anyone with an Irish Accent.

To address Shag's point, that is borne of experience. There are some areas that are no-go areas in many major cities. We have regular stories of sexual offences committed by immigrants. We also have regular stories of sexual offences caused by natives. The difference is, "culture" is often used as a defence.

If we go to a Muslim country like Turkey, you can drink beer. Do that in Saudi Arabia and you can't hide behind "it is my culture".

Why is it difficult to understand that all people want is for those who choose to move here, respect our customs and obey our laws.

But I'm priveleged. My opinion counts for nothing.

I was purposefully reciprocating the condescention. I wasn't saying that taking the topic seriously was the problem. It was the way he responded to someone who actually believes what this thread tries to make light of. I disagree with Shag's opinion, an opinion I believe he takes seriously, unlike the OP. And I believe that poster's response is unhelpful.

I think part of why we have a backlash, a resurgence, of that kind of thinking is because of the condescention of the left. If we discussed things on an equal footing, we would get further with our persuading. That was the point.

But I do know that a thread I started about the last dance from dirty dancing last week was removed and I was put on a time out, and no matter how you look at it, this thread has caused more offence than mine, and it still got to 161 replies, how the fuck does that work, this site is losing its grip on how it moderates the forum.

Good bye everyone, I'm sure a ban is on the cards, but this post could have been avoided if the site responded to reasonable requests to explain what rules I had broken.
