I know there are lots of dog / pet lovers on here, and I'm sure some foster them too.

I'm currently fostering my first dog, a poor neglected bulldog which has had a tough go, and came to me just before Christmas complete with surgery scars and very withdrawn.

I'm not looking forward him going to his forever home, I'm so happy he's getting a second chance but be sad to see him go.

Anyway this is my first foster, I'm wondering if anyone else fosters and if you keep in touch with your past dogs an check up on them ?

my friend fosters loads of dogs, and often the new owners send her pics etc of how they are doing, which she loves to see...i also know that she is sad to see some go as well..in fact the amount of dogs in her house are a testament to the fact that she cant say goodbye to a couple of them at all!

We don't foster as such but we puppy walk for guide dogs, we are meant to be informed on how your dog is doing but sadly our last one was withdrawn due to hip displacement and lives with a family in Shrewsbury. We don't know how she's doing

Hiding in the shadows

We couldn't have a dog for years due to living in rented accommodation.

We volunteered with The Cinnamon Trust.

Walked dogs for people unable to, either due to old age or ill health. We did occasionally have 'sneaky' sleepovers a few occasions when one lady went into hospital.

Loved doing it.

I hope the adoptive owners keep me updated, such a soft beastie. I guess with social media its easier than ever.

They did say they don't let you keep the first one, you need to be able to let them go, so I'm pretty sure he'll be going. Had him 6-7 weeks now, so getting a little attached to the monster.

I didn't even know you could do that, I thought they placed with a foster home until get to age.

Hip dysplasia is rife in so many breeds.

I fostered for a charity in wales.

Loved it and became a failed fosterer twice!

Buddy lying on my legs was the Last foster dog, saved on the morning he was going to be pts!

Sadly can’t do it anymore but still keep in touch with the owners xxx

We teach the dogs the basic skills and how to react to being in shops, on public transport etc.

It's a fantastic job I love doing it when the dog gets to about 14 months, depending on the basic skills they go to a guide dog centre to be taught how to do the harness work

Oh so you keep them 14 months. When you said puppy walk. I thought you meant like day walks or something.

I think after 14 months I'd be too attached and have 8 guide dogs, be a crazy old dogman

They only let you have one puppy at a time it's a full time job, you get them when they are around 7 weeks and are not allowed to leave them one their own till 12 weeks then it's no more than half an hour as the pup gets older you can leave them for longer max 3 hours a day. Saying that you can take them into most places.

We only couldn't take them to the O2 arena as no guide dogs are allowed due to the noise levels.
