"Gonna run in the morning. I've missed one this week and I daren't let it slide in case I just decide I can't be arsed at all!!! ![]() Yep, this is now the danger period for everyone. Life gets in the way, interruptions for illness or physical niggles, initial enthusiasm waning. Let’s get back on it everyone, running can be life changing - or at least moobs changing!

"Morning all, went for run this morning, well I say run, more of a jog! Question for you, as I tried a new app, I took it steady, did week 3 run 1, technically I should have done run 3 as that's where I'm at. But found that run quite exhausting. Is it a case of 'man up' (as much as a woman can do ![]() Just adapt to suit your current level of fitness...as long as you are getting out of breath (but not too much) during your run phases, you will definitely get better if you run three times a week x

"Sooooo....... Last week was a gruelling week. Over 100 hours worked and no time/energy/will to run at all. This morning I was up at 5, walked (was dragged) my pooch for 45 minutes, then stared at the treadmill trying to summon the energy to get on it. From somewhere the will came to me, so on I got!! And ah just kept running..... 3.2km (2 miles)!! Feel totally fucked, but chuffed with myself ![]() Very good effort!

"FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB WEEK FOUR!!!! MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug . . . Well done fellow athletes (splutter)! 28 people reported progress during Week Three. We're really doing it! That exercise thing we'd heard so much about. Well now we're doing it. We can smugly say "I jog three times a week" and it won't even be a lie!!! . . . EXPLANATION: If you're unsure what it's all about, the old thread explains (linked to below) but, in short, from 1st January, we're all trying to improve our fitness through "Couch to 5k" (C25K) which is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I'm using Get Running). A few people are getting fit by other means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. We're all expecting to be utterly crap at it but we're doing it anyway - yay us! Old thread: https://m.fabswingers.com/forum/lounge/711745 New members are still very welcome - post on this thread and I'll add you to the list next week. . . . THE OFFICIAL MEMBERS OF THE FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB: Adam 1971 Struggling with week four runs but getting nearer to completing it each time. Going to repeat it a bit. Ran in short sleeves in the sleet (WTF??? It's bad enough without hypothermia surely. You're improving all the time - and week four is only just officially starting now.) AdsandGeeky Walking all over the place including to the cinema this week. (How's the walking going? You're about to get married aren’t you? Tell us about that!) albi nice Newbie. Enjoys doing mud runs and spin classes. (Welcome. Is your knee getting better?) Bitch_and_Twat . Going to start a Park Run parallel thread. Done a 30 minute combo of runs and walks. (So pleased you're feeling better at last). BlueWonder Week two done with the third run feeling easy! Slightly sore knees. (You star!!! If it's getting easier, it means it's working!) BoPeep1 Done two runs this week. Rested over the weekend ready for week four. (Well done - are you feeling ready for week four?) Chasing waterfalls Ran to badminton. Week three complete. Trying the NHS podcast. (How is the podcast? And you ran to get to yet more exercise - wow!)) _xciter7169 Wasn't going to run in the rain but saw a man running and made himself go for it. (Nice one! Maybe some other jogger saw you go past and then they went out. Like a Mexican wave!) _riskynrisky Didn't run during week two. Just needs the willpower! (Did you manage to run? How was it?) goodtimes_888 Being absolutely lovely to everyone on the thread as always. (You're very lovely to everyone and never say what you're up to ![]() ![]() im a keen runner and triathlete. Anybody wanting to run should just go to the local parkrun whatever your level. They’re ace and for people of all abilities. I’ve seen 70 year olds and 7 year olds. I’ve no idea if that’s good or not but I’m not giving up. I’m not following any plan other than to run at least 5-6 times a week and put one foot in front of the other. "Hi team, can I join the gang, I'd say I'm an experienced very average runner who's best days were long ago, but I'm trying to get back to some semblance of my past self and that journey may as well start here. I admire anybody who gets out there and does at least something, afterall the hardest part of going for a run is putting your trainers on. ![]() Ain’t that the truth!

I have to assume my best days are in front of me because I've certainly not show any sporting prowess in my first 42 years!

"Just popping my head in. Tomorrow will mark the end of week three. My first run I barely made out alive and this evening I did (according to Strava) 3.8k in 27 mins. I’ve no idea if that’s good or not but I’m not giving up. I’m not following any plan other than to run at least 5-6 times a week and put one foot in front of the other. I’m still in the walk/run phase but it’s getting easier, faster and now about 80% is running. I’ve signed up for park run but I won’t be doing it until I know I can do a full 5k. I still hate running ![]() ![]() ![]() Agreed - if you start to like running, you're thrown out of the Crap Runners' Club.

"Got another run in tonight, still no idea how far ive been running but its far enough, seem to be running a bit further now before I have to stop for a walk, progress?" Absolutely progress!! That's all you need to do - run a bit more each time, get your heart rate up a bit - you're doing it!!!

"Hi I would love to get involved. I have gym kit from a previous life and running shoes so I am ready to go. When do I need to do the run by and how far? Well done to all of you who have been in since week 1 - any advice on staying motivated would be appreciated. ![]() Welcome!!! Very nice to have you. I get motivated by imagining I'm outrunning medical conditions I'd like to avoid. I run along chanting (in my head) "Diabetes can kiss my arse" and stuff like that!

"Just done a treadmill run. 2 miles in 20 minutes, it's only my third run, the first to were in the first week of Jan. I am having trouble getting a running routine going... Have you tried the app that we're all using? ......i find that and the comments and motivation from these threads keep me going I did try an app but my gym is in a basement, so I didn't get any signal so the app wouldn't work... I'm thinking of going for different running goal..." The NHS one is a podcast rather than an app so maybe it's like a tape-recording rather than a web-based-thingy. #technicalsupport

Running is by far best way for me to feet fit. Treated myself to. Night light. They are so good. Can see the pot holes now. Happy Friday " That’s absolutely amazing!!! So much fitter and a stone lighter! That’s really impressive. Can you see a difference in the mirror? The light thing is a good idea. Is it one of those head ones?

"I’m running today. Spent some of the evening dealing with a smoke alarm that is convinced that the house is burning down when it quite clearly isn’t!! When is everyone planning on trying Park Run? I think I might try it straight after week nine. I know everyone says you can walk/run it but I think I’d rather feel like I’m capable of running the whole 5km. “Twat” from Bitch and Twat has started a thread for Fab Park Runners. I’ll find a link. " That’s what I’m aiming for. I’m up to 4K, more running than walking so not too far away. The first run I did I jogged about 100 yards and honestly thought I was going to die. The sudden rush of oxygen to my arms was even painful! I think once we are surrounded by other runners, we will be able to pick ourselves further.

"Great thread. I small group has been set up local to me for people wanting to run. There's people of varying abilities from some doing c25k to some running 8k. The main feedback is how everyone is enjoying doing it with others. 1 because some are a bit frightened to go out on the own in the dark evenings and 2 for the encouragement from others. So if anyone is struggling it might be worth having a look on Facebook to see if you have a local group close by. Keep positive. " Thanks for that advice. It's a good idea. This thread has kept me motivated. Having others in the same boat is great. I'll add you to our list of supporters.
