Why is it so bloody difficult to put on without looking like a clown?

Any tips for an inexperienced CD?

Watch you tube videos or is there no local make up artists in your area that come out to the house for make up tutorials there is a lady round where we live that does classes she visited my mate who's a tv he said she was great just a thought

As someone who doesn't wear make up I can't offer much advice.

I would suggest looking at you tube videos, there are many thousands showing make up tips and techniques.

Also lots and lots of practice.

Even the most accomplished make up artists weren't always good at it and have had to learn.

I personally have a few small tipped brushes so I can apply different colours more precisely. Also if you have a really glittery/powdery eye shadow, try getting the brush a bit wet first and ‘paint’ it on! Also if you do your eyes first before any other make up, you can use makeup remover or a wipe to take off any excess powder that’s fallen on your cheeks before applying the rest of your make up! Choose a colour lighter than you think you want and a smallish brush. Hold your eyelid by the outer corner and stretch it gently, that helps keep it closed and gives a smoother surface. Then apply a lighter colour nearest your nose, slightly darker in the middle and slightly darker again at the outer edge. Take a clean brush or cotton bud and sort of blur the edges between the colours.

If you use brown mascara its less harsh than black so doesn't contribute further to the clown effect.

Oh this sounds great!

I think it would be a great idea if clubs who welcome tv’s/ts’s had a social occasional and invited people like makeup artists, fashion advisers etc to give talks and tutorials!

I’ve seen and spoken to some beautiful tv’s/ts’s - but a few have said they’d like a little extra help/advice! X

Blending is the key to not looking like Something from Kiss!

Darker on the lid and lighter towards the brow line and blended in the middle.

Also pick a colour that exxentuates your eye colour, for example I have dark eyes and olive skin tone so dark smoky shades or metallics suit me far more than pastels and brights.

I'm not that good at it (don't wear it enough to practice often) but I have learnt a few tips from YouTube tutorials (quite a few have been mentioned already). If you want your eye colour to stand out go for an opposite eye shadow; I have grey-blue eyes so coppers, bronzes, browns and pinks make my eye colour more vibrant by association. Never pull your eyelid taut when doing a winged eye; keep your eyes open and tilt your head back and you'll get a smoother line. And a lighter colour eyeliner inside the waterline then darker on the outside on the lower lash line will make your eyes look bigger. Blend blend, blend. And do foundation afterwards so you can clear up any mistakes first.

You tube sounds the place to look. I never thought about contrasting with eye colour. I have blue eyes so go for blue make up normally. Will have to try the bronzes

Invest in a couple of good blending brushes also i find you pay for what you get. I recently used the new kat von d saint and sinner pallete and omg it was soooo good the pigment and the blending was amazing! But its a ridiculous price lol same as everyone says youtube tutorials and start out with a semi decent pallette nyx is a resonable price x

I’m hopeless with eye shadow, so I tend to do a quite neutral eye and wear a bold lipstick, red or wine, which looks good with my fair skin and dark hair.

I am determined to master winged eyeliner though!

Pretty much what I do too. Blend a couple of tones rather than a block colour, lightest on the inside & use a small brush rather than a sponge tip. Go for more natural colours too that suit your skin tone or your eyes. Blues, pinks etc make most people look like coco the clown!

YouTube will give you loads of tips though! x

Depends on your eyes though - mine are quite small as in you can't see much of the lid. If yours are like that you'll want a lighter colour on the lid and a darker colour in the crease and towards the outer edge to make them seem bigger. It took me 25 years but i just got smokey eyes down last year - practise practise practise!

Being partially sighted in one eye only adds to the fun, i have to see what iy lookslike after i have applied it. I still end up with slightly different eyeshadow on my eyes.

Eye shadow I can do now, it’s not a pretty sight when I put it on but it’s eyeliner on the top I can’t do! One eye is on point and the other, a toddler might as well have done it!

Only eyeshadow tip I know is if you have blue/green eyes -

Purple eyeshadow makes your eyes look greener

Brown eyeshadow makes them look bluer.

I swap between the two.

I match my eyes to my outfit. Lol

I also have dodgy eyes, my left I don’t have much vision in (I can see but if my right went I couldn’t read anything) and the eyelid is a little more ‘down’ than the other one so eye make up always looks slightly different, I only use two shades now, never one.

Decent product

Urban decay eye primer ,every urban decay palette ever made .

Gel eyeliner with small slanted brush . I find easier to apply than liquid and pencils.

Try a beauty salon or someone to come out to your house and do your make - up . I did this the other week and airbrushed silicone foundation is great .£30.00 mobile and salon price around here . Then get them to explain everything they do

Use a light shadow- Bourjois ones are brilliant... I use their shimmery almost white one. Blend it for ages with a brush, right up to the brow, and don’t be too heavy handed! I would avoid colours or anything darker than your skin tone until you get the hang of it don’t forget to highlight with a shimmery white under your brow and in the very inner corner of the eye- this looks really pretty and opens up the eye! Have fun

Get a palate and less is more build up with lighter colours, only use dark colours in the creases and edges and then blend blend blend! Good luck.

There are a few great you tubers out there including TVs and TS giving advice so it’s a great resource
