I've been suffering with depression for nearly 2 years now, and I've got to the point where I can handle it anymore.

I don't have anyone to talk to about it, I've tried to tell people who I thought were friends, but they just seem to ignore me and don't realise how low I'm feeling.

I did have private counselling, but the cost of it and me having my hours cut at work has had to stop this.

I just want to find a way out before it's to late

Hey OP, I’m sorry you’re struggling. I just don’t think this is the best place to to open up, as you know what people are really focusing on here!

I’d really recommend the samaritans as a starting point... they’re there 24 hours a day and will never judge you- you don’t even have to tell them your real name. They can advise you on where to get some support. There’s lots of it out there.

You could call the Samaritans... they have people you can talk to for free and will be able to help. Don’t suffer alone, you are absolutely not on your own. Maybe try an online forum specifically aimed at mental health issues.

Talk to your GP - they will know of counselling services in your area.

Give the Samaritans a call too - they will be able to point you to services.

Sometimes all it takes is a conversation to lighten the load awhile.

I was also going to suggest the samaritans. If you're not already, why don't you join a gym? That always seems to lift my mood

Go to the GP, get diagnosed and signed off from work. This will buy you some much needed time. Stay away from places like this. It will only contribute to bi polar disorder. You’ll have a high whilst talking to those who either don’t care/understand or not qualified and then crash through the floor when rejected. Just walk away and seek professional help. Time is your only healer.

NHS provide free counselling & if you need time off your GP will sign you off. They may also suggest medication. I’ve been on pills for anxiety on & off for 5 years now - you can’t do something like this on your own OP.

Make an appointment ASAP. And in the meantime the Samaritans are a good support point.

Friends may just not understand, I know a lot of mine don’t. Some have gone & learned about it & are very supportive, but others just think I need to cheer up. If they don’t know how to help, your friends are probably in the same boat.

Don’t give up OP; there’s lots of help out there, you just need to ask in the right place xx

Depression can be a bitch especially with me having Aspergers.

I myself had a shit day at work and have been depressed all day. Still feel like it now and I'm just so damn fed up

Put some responsibility upon your GP, so that you are not alone. They have various options for depression and can ensure that they see you frequently too.

Aim to eat well plus exercise, which will influence your psychological wellbeing.

Just some basic things that could help you along. Wishing you well.

OP, it's good to let it out, you are brave to acknowledge your feelings.

I agree with what some others have said, get signed off work and see if you qualify for free counselling. Take some time out and heal. It is possible to live with depression and make small changes to be in a better place.

Best advice I ever received was you never know what is around the next corner! Keep moving forwards xxx

The posters who have found their GP to be helpful are very lucky.

Not one doctor in our practice was helpful or even very sympathetic with my daughter's severe depression.

Private counselling we couldn't afford, but we found a great local charity to help.

The last doctor I saw when I was depressed said I needed something to look forward to.

His suggestion was to go and live in Thailand for a few months because it was cheap

Ive only resently come out of servere depresion. just over two years ago i lost everythin after being medical discharged from army. so i lost wife car house job . so went to a dark place isolated my self for a long time which has now made. e have anxierty which im now trying to beat

OP, well done firstly, for seeking help!

You definitely need to be seeing your doctor regularly, if your GP is unhelpful, ask for a different doctor.

Depression is tough, really tough! But with the right support it won't last forever!

I had a family member go through some tough times last year and he also found his local GP to be not especially helpful - prescribing anti-depressants and sending him away, in effect. He's doing better now but not really thanks to his doctor!

Depending on where you are you might want to look at a charitable group called Andys Man Club (easy to find on Facebook) which has the motto 'It's ok to talk' - they have weekly meetings at venues across the country, mostly North/Mids so there maybe one near you.

They are very much about sharing problems and giving you someone to talk to who knows what you're going through - and that is half the battle. Good luck, hope you find some support...

I want to say well done for acknowledge that you are having problems with depression.

Go to the GP and be very honest about how low you are feeling.

Ring Samaritans. They are there and experienced at talking to people. I used to think you had to be suicidal to contact them, but they are there to talk to people struggling with life.

Contact MIND or other mental health charities in your area. Google coping with depression in your town.

Your GP can refer you for free counselling, but there may be a delay.

Talk to friends and family. They may not know what to say, but tell them how they can help...keep you company, go for a walk together or whatever.

Get some exercise and fresh air.

Keep busy and don't sit on your own pondering life. It can be difficult to get motivated. Try and set little targets...do a service on the car , sort out your wardrobe and take stuff to charity shop. Doing little tasks and ticking them off your list van help you tackling things one at a time.

Keep involved with the forums, fab a few pics and remember...you will recover from this bad period. Xx

Just to add check their website for details they are amazing advocates dealing with all mental help and financial support plus counseling group therapy in me on one always someone on the end of the phone they really do help x

Hang on in there man. Been there and it's bloody awful. Mental health is a huge issue and I'm always pleased when people are brave enough to open up about it. Some great advice in this thread. Don't be afraid to talk. Talking is good. With you all the way. D

Try anything that avoids medication. Medication is a get out. Mediation through specialists. An app like Calm can relax you. Speak to your GP

Stress and many other things can contribute

Go see your local g.p

There are work groups that are free and genuinely help

Mind the medication made my boobs grow
