It's no different to normal flu. Apart from when you sneeze you say crikey instead of achoo

If you get flu, try your best to not spread it.

it's just 'flu! there are a few different strains around every year, hence the vaccine changes, this is just slightly nastier than usual, but apparently far less drastic than the bird flu was a while back. no need to panic!

If memory serves it started in France but was called Spanish flu for political reasons, well, according to QI.

Hand washing is key... Think.of all the thing's you touch... Doors, handles desks, supermarket trolley handles.

They say don't touch your eyes nose or mouth when out in public . It spreads that way.

Worth a try?

I had flu over Christmas. I don't think it was the Australian strain but nasty none the less. Went to bed boxing Day and stayed there for four days of delirium. I'm only just starting to feel like my normal energy levels are returning. Because it was possibly a different strain it means that I would have no resistance to the Australian flu. That's a scary thought! Having children of school age pretty much assures that if it's going round we'll get it.

Sneezing and coughing into the crook of your elbow instead of your hands can help to stop the spread of germs.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone but, if you are unlucky enough to catch it, make sure you stay hydrated.

Even the briefest of searches will confirm that influenza is a cause of pneumonia

I work in an office where 7 of the 11 staff have been hot by it. Non of them are obvious malingerers and the briefest any has been off for is 8 days, most have been off since New Year. It sounds savage, not sure why it needs to be branded as australian flu but the strain that is out there is far nastier than usual.

This is one of the areas with a high number of cases and according to the local newspaper one hospital has ran out of beds, has been appealing for people not to attend A&E and is so over run that they have non clinicakl staff on the wards.

I wouldn't want to come down with it if I was old or infirm

I’m on day 5 so far of this. It apparently developed during the Aussie winter so wasn’t in our flu jabs (lead times on development and manufacture) which is why it is spreading so quickly. It’s H3N2, and is predicted to be worse than the H1N1 outbreak in 2009-10 and possibly worse than previous outbreaks in earlier decades. It is VERY nasty (I don’t think I’ve ever been this ill) and has given me recurring fevers, bad sinusitis (lots of snotsick) and gastrointestinal problems. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. If you do show symptoms, best to isolate yourself as soon as possible and recover fully before you venture back out into the world.

On a positive note, I am losing my excess weight rapidly, have kicked my alcohol and caffeine habits, and have reduced my expenditure massively.

Love and hugs to anyone currently suffering,

Twat
