I’ve had a conversation, not on here, with a guy who’s gone off on one. He’s on a break from his gf. She went for a drink with someone else and he said that’s cheating.

Don’t get it!

I'd say yes, seems fine to me.

To be honest, I don't get the idea of a break. You're either together or you're not. If a break still limits you to only your other half, then isn't that just still being together but without the sex? I always thought a break would be when two people choose not to be together and to see how it is with others, with the possibility of getting back together in the future.

But I guess I'm reality it would come down to whatever the two people discussed at the time of going on said break.

Hiding in the shadows

A break, is just that. You're taking a break from each.

Taking time to figure what it is you really want, I'd assume going on a date with someone else was pretty much essential.

How else could you possibly know whether the person you're on a break from is the right one for you, unless you've 'browsed' around

Usually there’s one person more keen on a break than the other. Depending on the reasons for the break and whether they would be dating others makes a big difference.

Going for a drink is potentially a hook up so don’t be surprised if the other person is somewhat miffed.

Might be they want to see if the grass is greener elsewhere but if not they’d like you back.

I’d be miffed if a girl said she needed space for a bit but then went dating someone else.

If your on a break then I think it's okay and if you get back together you accept you both did things while apart and move on from it

Having a break is a half hearted attempt at splitting up . If someone is on a break and has a date then let’s face it - the relationship is dead in the water .

Taking a break is terminology used by people who want to have an easy fall back option if their search for a new partner doesn't pan out.

What do you mean a 'break'? Is it a temporary physical separation from each other? Living separately? Or is it a 'break-up'? Because you're either together or you're not together or you're in an open relationship. It will be one of those three, so act accordingly.

I guess it depends what they agreed - if he thinks it means just taking time alone to think for a few days, and she thinks it means trial splitting-up-and-going-with-others then they could be in a world of hurt!!

Taking a break is a guilt free option to enable blokes to nail the office hottie then resume the partnershio, but for them to score points if the lady is seen to even message another bloke whilst mid-break.

Entitlement springs to mind.

I assumed it ment you had broken up but I think that might be wrong

Going for a drink is not necessarily a date or potential hook up...I have alot of male friends I drink with but wouldn't dream of even kissing them. If he is not happy about a "break" or the terms of that, then maybe he should make it permanent instead of whining about it? Never understood the whole "we're on a break" thing. I split from my ex husband and got back with him almost a year later n he got pissy about me seeing another guy while we were seperated... shoulda told me something there eh?
