The worst racist incident I encountered was in Cuba. I was with a native and we were heading into a department store. We were barred until my friend told me to remove my hat to reveal my auburn streaked hair, a colour not seen on black natives. I was then embraced with "aah American, come in!" To which I replied "British: no thanks!"
The woman barring the door was a light coloured black woman, think Meghan Merkel whilst my friend and I are more Beyonce skin tone types.
