"Peter an paul both blood brothers go off to war peter gets killed paul comes back to marry his mum how x"

Clearly illegally. Marriage between certain relatives is legal however between parents and offspring is prohibited, even when there is no blood relationship, i.e. adoptive parent or parent-in-law.

If I was Paul I’d suggest he runs for the hills before the authorities catch up with him

Had his father remarried thus his mum was technically not a direct relative but merely his late fathers now widowed wife

It should probably read Paul comes back to mary his mother, then people misread it as marry XXX

"Paul is a vicar?"

This IS the correct answer

The marry is his mum's name is firstly stupid

Secondly only invented when some one wanted to pretend the correct vicar answer is wrong

And thirdly is grammatically incorrect

If Marry , was his mum's name

It should be written

came back to Marry , his mum .

The riddle is old and it has always been HE is qualified to marry people xxx
