So my cousin has just started an Instagram page for her daughter who is 1. I think it’s completely open so anyone can view and although her daughter is cute I just don’t know how I feel about it. Thoughts on this?

It's not something I would do. Is she going to put her whole life on Instagram,the child may not like it when they're older.

Parents using their kids on social media for likes and attention is unfortunately not only a new thing, it's a growing trend. Twisted in a lot of ways.

I'm not talking about generally harmless posting of your kids on Facebook to people you know, there's a difference between that and trying to model them on Instagram and various other sites.

It's wrong and not for me at all.

There immense potential safeguarding issues there.

Especially if the page is open.

An individual wouldn't even need an Instagram account, let alone follow, to be able to take those pictures and use them.

No way would we do it with our children, photos are for us and family only never do we post on social media

I don't use social media of any kind. Facebook Twitter instagram.

The friends I wish To stay in contact with from school etc I'm in contact with. I don't feel the need to share that I'm off to the dentist or pictures of my dinner. I'm a very private person.

Why do people air the dirty laundry in public on such platforms. As for putting your children in there , is nothing sacred any more??

What’s wrong with the lady just posting photos of the baby on her own account like most people? Maybe this lady thinks she might become an internet sensation?

Sharing pictures of your children on social media with friends and family I understand but an individual account I can only imagine that they are hoping for a huge following to earn money from - not that I know how all that works. I'd feel a bit odd following a child I didn't know on any social media so I do think it's the wrong move for a parent to make.

I seem to recall reading that in France it's illegal or could be illegal to put pictures of children on social media as there isn't their consent for you to do so.

Who even wants to look at endless photos of their kid? I've got a few on my Facebook friends who over share photos of their kids and even their profile pic is their kid/baby rather than them, I've unfollowed them all. A few of them have sent me follow requests on Instagram too, I'm not following them back as again my feed will just be clogged with pics of their kids

Oh good so it’s not just me what isn’t sure about this. Yes, so many people don't engage brains before doing this kind of thing... Very dangerous and thoughtless

We've already informed our friends and family, if they want to see 'mini-naughty' when she arrives...they're to visit in person. We're certainly not going to doing the daily update bollocks for those too lazy to come and enjoy human interaction,

Major safeguarding issue! Living her life on instagram for attention. Fast forward a few years and the 'first day at school in uniform' pic will be on there. Advertising to the world where her kid is. Some parents just don't think how the big bad world operates.
