"Only high Court bailiffs can, general debt collection bailiffs are not allowed." Bailiffs have to be certified. Wherever they come from. There arent two sets of rules

"Only high Court bailiffs can, general debt collection bailiffs are not allowed. Bailiffs have to be certified. Wherever they come from. There arent two sets of rules" No there are two different things High court enforcement officers are different but get grouped (incorrectly) with bailiff/debt collectors. I'm basing this completely on "can't pay we will take it away" and "the sheriff's are coming". Both frequently state there is a difference.

I've had the debt collection people knocking on my door as the people we bought our house off moved and we're obviously in debt, didn't inform these companies they'd moved. Debt collectors are a bunch of bullying cunts.

The powers range from being able to walk in peacefully to f-all

" All bailiffs must be certified And have court orders And they must all follow the same set of guidelines There are not two sets of rules If they dont follow the guidelines, then THEY are breaking the law. Debt collection agencies must follow very strict guidelines too. Or risk losing their licences. They aren't allowed to harrass or bully But yes, I concede, they are often pond life And damn it, I should know!!

Did you get the company name? You should complain" This was 4 years ago. They harrassed us for weeks, all times of the day bashing the door, sending letters demanding ever more money. Police wouldn't listen in the beginning until they tried to take my car. I'd tried to show them ID, passport etc. but they wouldn't even acknowledge it. They had my car part loaded when the police arrived, soon shut up then. Never heard from them again.

Debt Collection Agents work for a range of clients (eg banks, credit card companies, catalogues, mail order companies etc) to recover money owed to them Both are regulated but they are both different. DCA’s cannot demand or force access. Bailiffs may have the relevant paperwork to grant them access & will often have the police accompany them if this is the case. If someone is trying to force access & doesn’t have the police with them, then call the police to get advice or report it.

"Only high Court bailiffs can, general debt collection bailiffs are not allowed. Bailiffs have to be certified. Wherever they come from. There arent two sets of rules" High court ballifs do have different rules to general ones. High court bailiffs deal with repossessions of houses ect. And can force entry into your home for that purpose. They can force entry into business premises, so that would include your home if running a business from it.

"It's high court enforcers" Get in touch with citizens advice. They will actually be able to tell you what they can and can't do. Clearly people here have different ideas.

There are quite a few debt helplines these days too Sometimes the CAB are very busy, and its tough to get an app Also, as they are volunteers they aren't always experts on every subject

"It's high court enforcers" Then they have the right to force entry. You really need to try and negotiate an agreement before it reaches that point

"The thing is I'm already paying off my debt . Missed no payments at all and I have had a collection agent knock my door . I told him.im paying the debt off but he won't have it . I have paperwork to prove I am paying " Well then you have to complain To the company that 'own' the debt ( which probably isnt the original lender)

"Once it is at high court there is nothing you can do. Whoever owns the debt can escalate to the high court to try and get it cleared quicker. If you opened the door to them or they found a open one that's it there in. Only thing last to do is work with them..." You’re are mistaken. If there is a court order and it has been incorrectly issued because the facts are wrong then you can go back to the court and ask for the judgement to be set aside, as long as you can prove the original judgement has been issued under false pretences.
