That’s not chat, it’s motivational discussion, essential to the strategy of the exercise regime

Seriously, this is important in “behaviour change”. It’s why Slimming World etc is more effective than just trying to lose weight on your own, Alcoholics Anonymous as a support group, etc...

4.2 miles run/walk done in 52 minutes. 12:18 pace.

Feel much better for having done that, despite the cold wind and icy rain!

A perfect example of the first step out of the door being the hardest, was mumbling and grumbling to myself as I walked down the drive, but soon as I started running my whole mood lifted and I perversely started enjoying the crappy weather!

Now for a hot shower and to start the preening process before tonight's fun and games ??

Well the 5k runner app isn’t free in week 2 they want you to pay a premium so it’s deleted. Done my 5th run 5 minutes walking warm up 5 minutes running and so on then 5 minutes cool down then stretching feel good also benched 100kg for 2 reps today chuffed with that

Hey, well I got into running last year, did a 10k in May then got the bug. Ended with a 1hr 50 half marathon in September. Which isn’t bad for a big lad like me.. it also put an end to my running for a few months as pulled my groom, no phnar phnar jokes please... back on it now and it’s as if never run before. It’s all kind over matter! Keep the mind strong and when the legs don’t want to go, slow it up and keep plodding!

Week 2 run 1 was a fail. So i can run for 90 seconds... but not 5 times. Just 1. The rest can only be described as not running.

I did the first run of week 2 yesterday and managed it, although the final run was more of a zombie stagger.

If you could only do one run I’d have a rest day and try the week 2 run again. Did you have a meal just before? Give yourself the best chance of succeeding. Keep on Running by the Spencer Davies Group on your headphones

No it was on an empty stomach but honestly... I’m really not a runner haha. I was surprised I managed the first one after the lack of success this week. You know what though? I got this. We all have. Persistence is the key.

Try get some food in you 30-60 minutes before you exercise, try the run again with some energy in you,

If you exercise in a full stomach maybe, I'm not saying wolf down fish and chips and then go running

But if you are feeling lethargic when exercising you aren't putting enough energy in your body,

Yes fasting exercise burns more fat but you need to be fit to do that, it is more important to fuel your body to complete the exercise,

If you're doing c25k, then the amount of calories you will be burning will be minimal, generally you will burn 100 calories/mile as a rough guide, so you are unlikely to go over 200 i would have thought, which is probably just a piece of fruit or a couple of biscuits. You can fuel that with what you already have in your body, even if you run first thing in the morning before any food at all. Don't get suckered in to thinking you need big meals or energy drinks or the like to do this, because you Don't, and it will just cause you to gain weight. If you are feeling lethargic during your run, it's much more likely to be general fatigue due to lack of fitness, insufficient rest since your previous tun, or most likely a sugar crash caused by having eaten too much high carb/sugar food before your run

True, this morning I had a banana about 2 hours before I ran (no other breakfast) and felt fine. Even when I ran marathons, a bowl of porridge 3 hours before was enough.

If you google NHS Couch to 5k there’s a free podcast you can use. I hear it’s really good.

Good stuff and well done every one I'm reading some very inspirational story's there.

Stick with it, it's only the first week and generaly the hardest in some respects to making sure you get out and do it, but keep it going and it will get easier, more comfortable and rewarding as you progress

I love my fitness, though you may not see that when looking at me lol, and I've always encouraged anyone with any physical exercise no matter what their level, in fact I have more respect for those who are setting out and trying to make a change to themselves than the honed athlete streaking off into the distance

So if I can offer any advice or give support in any way then I'm here

There should be more bed-based exercise. Exercise you can do under the duvet. I wonder if anyone, on the whole of Fab, could think of anything that would raise the heart rate in bed... Seems like an impossible dream.

I ran week two, run 1 this morning.

It was...

It was...

*crosses fingers*... it was easy.

Ok, ok, I can’t lie to my running buddies. It was bloody hard.

Somehow adding an extra 30 seconds felt like it added 5 minutes. By the sixth 90 second run I was knackered.

But... I DID IT... and never was the slogan more apt #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

Here’s an interesting article the ever-lovely MrAlleycat sent me. It might be of interest.

I only bloody did it. Week 2 run 1 complete. It totally counts that the dogs were on one and dragged me for the last 2 90 seconders. I think imma just gonna sit on my arse now. My Fit bit thinks someone new is wearing it. Never before has the ‘run’ option been used!

Brilliant work

I have my week 2 day 1 run tomorrow

Hope the calves hold up. They felt very tight Friday almost like they were going to ‘pull’

Have suffered with weakness here since my footballing days

Wish me luck lol

Got my run 3 of week 1 done on Friday. That’s 3 x 2.5 km runs (plus 1km warm down) done in week 1. Going to do run 1 of week 2 this afternoon. Friday felt good so might push it to 3km for week 2.

Week 1 run 2....i was going to do it when i got out of bed, not a good idea as i didn't get out of bed till 12.30 yes, extremely lazy!! But i have just got back, there's a couple of slight up hills, god they nearly killed me but when it said last minute walking i carried on running, only because it was down hill lol and i knew it was 5-10 min walk up hill home.

I don't know whether to carry on running/jogging/staggering there or to try and find a flatter place....its a nature reserve from a disused mine.

Does anyone elses bum cheeks ache

Anyway, well done everyone

Whoop! G’wan girl!!

Luckily where I live is flat. The hills are likely the reason for the bum cheek ache. It’s my weak cankles that are giving me jip. Meh!

I’ve done run 2 of week 2. It hurt but I did it, thanks to you lot for driving me on.

The offer of a blow job from all the ladies at the end of each run is real, right? I didn’t just imagine it?

Hope I'm still allowed to be part of this club, because your motivation is keeping me going. You lovely bunch of nutters

BUT I went for a bike ride today (not a pro at all on the bike) on my rest day from a run and I definitely prefer cycling to running! Managed 14 miles today, yes it took me over two hours, but best I've done in ages

Mouth to vagina resuscitation is available but unfortunately I have to inhale from a helium balloon first. This means that any fanny farts will sound like you’ve trod on Mickey Mouse

As on your main post, get advice. I’d start with a sports physio who may refer you for gait analysis. Running on soft surfaces or non-impact exercise like cycling or swimming will probably be advised, as will ensuring you have suitable footwear.

May I join please? I've not jogged/run for 30 years but have been incredible active in other ways.

I've just done a second 'jog' around a few side streets with some walking and then some core and arm work at home.

When does that feeling of being a lumbering sack of wet sand go away?

Anyone fitness any advice?

Tore my ankle ligament a year ago. Up to this was running regularly and football once a week.

Since that I struggle to get over about 3k without it being too painful.

Any ideas or should I give up?

When the sand mixes with water and cement to form concrete...after that it gets worse...oh hang on, I’m supposed to be motivating you, sorry, yes it does get easier after the first 1000 miles (I’m not doing very well am I?)...I’ll go and have a lie down in a dark corner now...

I'm barely managing 20 minutes of run/walk so I'm going to do a bit every day until a Fab mate will be thrashing me on Thursday.
