"My favourite programme ever. I get fierce abuse from friends over it lol. DIY and an emotional backstory. It's like x factor but with drills " Spot on! But the best bit is a bunch of ordinary people fixing a key aspect of someone’s life.

"It's a great program and I used to watch it all the time. The only thing that irks me is, would all these trades people etc be doing it if it wasn't a tv program? If they were approached by a charity to help do that sort of thing, would they do it? If so why would we need a tv program to do it? Why are the family that live up the road from me having to raise money to alter their house to accommodate their disabled child? Why are local trades not jumping in to help out? " No they would not...everyone wants to be on telly and i cant stand that nick bloke..... utter shite.

" I said something similar above. I'm not blowing my own trumpet here, but the last two Christmas I've done jobs for people and not charged. (They were people I did know and not strangers, but )I know how much it meant to them. Although it's a couple of days work, it didn't cost me anything, but my time. A conscious decision and I'll di it again this year, pay it forward and all that shite.

"I'm sure most people would if they had a spare day or two. No one actually asks tho. When we go into a house to do work, if you can see that people are either struggling, really old or having a hard time we usually do the work for free. We don't tell them but when they come to pay we refuse. They usually force a packet of biscuits on us or something " That's very nice of you but it's rare. After all most trades are in business to make money and don't really have the time to spare.

Sweeping statement of the day - I know of trades people who have done stuff for free and who have given up paid work to do DIY SOS, and no they didn’t appear on telly as they were grafting away in the background.

"I never miss any episode. It's one of those programmes that really touch the soul and tug the heartstrings but always in a good way! Never mawkish or syrupy, but even after all the years it has been shown, it still demonstrates just how mankind can help others in need. Don't mind saying it generates a lump in the throat each time, sometimes even a few tears, but all in a positive way." pretty much this.. does restore ones faith in humanity and certainly examples 'there but for'..

" They are publicly raising money within the local community but as far as I know no one has come forward to help without payment? Maybe they have but want to remain anonymous about it so not to be seen as a soft touch? Perhaps waiting for them to raise the money for materials?
