"Unless you are a Senior Captain for one the the major carriers it's really not that great. Junior flight officers aren't that well paid. Living out of a suitcase in glamorous parts of the World that you rarely see as one hotel looks like another. Working with different crews all the time so you don't build a team rapport. They are more systems operators than pilots..." There was a programme on a few weeks ago about Ryan air new pilots... they are on a starting wage of 40k for 3 months, then up to 60k for 60 months.... and this can be for a 20 year old who has parents well off enough to get you through flying schools up to commercial... well paddy air isn't great, just one of the low cost budget ones. | |||

"Unless you are a Senior Captain for one the the major carriers it's really not that great. Junior flight officers aren't that well paid. Living out of a suitcase in glamorous parts of the World that you rarely see as one hotel looks like another. Working with different crews all the time so you don't build a team rapport. They are more systems operators than pilots... There was a programme on a few weeks ago about Ryan air new pilots... they are on a starting wage of 40k for 3 months, then up to 60k for 60 months.... and this can be for a 20 year old who has parents well off enough to get you through flying schools up to commercial... well paddy air isn't great, just one of the low cost budget ones. But sometimes it can be lower than that. This is an extract from the Daily Telegraph: "Data supplied by Balpa show that unless freshly qualified pilots manage to get a job with a major flag-carrying airline such as British Airways they can expect to earn about £27,000 to £29,000 a year, eventually climbing to a basic salary before allowances of £56,000 to £66,000 as a captain with more than a decade’s service and four to eight years in command."" I really don’t know what airline that is tbh, the flight managers are on £30000 where I work so I know that the pilots are definitely on more than £290000 starting salary. I don’t work for a charter airline so can’t speak for them. | |||
