My age is bothering me

By (user no longer on site) OP

It's my 50th later this month and as yet have no plans at all.

Anyone want to suggest something (legal!) that I could do or even some way that I can mark a birthday that I am absolutely dreading?

Thanks x

Mine was family orientated,I was kinda dreading mine in the summer time, but my big sister made it a lovely weekend for me. On the Saturday we went for a girlie afternoon tea in Nottingham both with our daughters, then all the family met at Chatsworth hall on the Sunday for a picnic made all the better as the weather for beautiful.

I can't remember the last time we were all together so it was great, parents all 4 kid's with their partners and kid's and to spend it with my twin brother which I hadn't done in god knows when was lovely.

Suppose it depends on who or what you had in mind, family, friend's or a meet from here.

My NYE 50th was a party at mine and the only people invited were those I really wanted to be there, not just because we share DNA or a staff loo.

I hired a hot tub (they even bring the hot water) had projected on a wall all the pictures of me and my friends and family over the years, everybody bought food and drink. Someone did the music from each decade and everybody loved it.

It was utterly simple but utterly amazing as everyone made it very special for me.

Can you not arrange something a few day's before then so your dad can attend? I was dreading it as well, but it wasn't that bad.

When I put my age on my profile I put it as being a few months older than I actually was,it was a surprise when I got people asking if I was really 50 which was a bit of a shock because I'd forgotten I'd done that. By the time it was my birthday the shock had passed

Try and do something you have always longed to do but never had the time or the courage to do to mark the occasion. I went on a wildlife holiday to Baja Califirnia to celebrate my 50th. So pleased I did. I can look back with very fond memories and remember exactly what I was doing on the big day. I hope you have a wonderful day whatever you decide to do OP. I'm nearing 60 but don't feel it at all. Try to think of being 50 as a whole new exciting adventure take care x

Well firstly you definitely need to book the day off!!

Treat yourself. Have a lie in. Go to a spa for the day with your favourite girlfriends. In the evening glam it up and go for dinner and cocktails either with them or other people.

Try not to worry about the what if's re your health, just enjoy your birthday

I turned 50 last year and whilst I don't buy into the adage the "it's just a number" I do think it's important to get a positive outlook on it. Sure know one wants to get older but it's better than the alternative. Celebrate making it to 50, lots of people don't. Also I try to project my mind forward a few years when I'll be thinking damn I wish I was 50 now!

And 50 is the new 40 apparently

If you cannot control it, don't worry about it, there's no point and you'll probably make yourself ill by worrying..

Eat healthy, don't drink to excess, exercise even just a little and of course enjoy yourself... Life's there for living not worrying..

As for something special and different to do, book a break to a naturists retreat for a weekend if you've never been.

I've been visiting Amsterdam since i was 19 when i lived in Germany. The sex shows were nothing more than titillation back then too. Over the years i peeled back the layers of the city. Got off the tourist trail. Made friends over there. And on my 40th birthday i went to my first underground fetish night. With a bit of research and Google you can plan quite a weekend. And pretty much legal.

A lot of lovely and sensible suggestions on the thread. I hope you manage to make a lovely day of it. You have acheived something fantastic and seem to have a lot of friends here who hold you in high regard. However your negativity may lead you to have a lousy time. With the greatest will in the world - give yourself the chance to have a nice time x

If that’s what you want to do, then go for it.

It's far, far from what I want but c'est la vie *shrug*"

You have the power to change that, or accept it.

"Why legal?

Because I have no criminal record and ain't about to start now

Go where illegal fun is legalized. I always find Amsterdam makes for a fun and cultural birthday break.

I went there for my 40th,it was the first time I'd watched a sex show. Left after 45 min's as the choreographed show was boring after a while . Loved Amsterdam though, god how my life has changed over the last ten year's!

Cassa rosso?"

God I haven't a clue now which it was,it took me ages getting the guts to go in there I know that as I expecting it to be full of pervy old guy's. I was assured there were couples in there and thankfully there was,as well as the pervy old guy's of course

You'd remember the fountain outside (big pens shooting water up in the air with spinning testicles) only in Amsterdam! God i love that place...no way would that get past planning in the uk!

You should really do something because you might look back in a few years and regret not celebrating. By then you'll be fretting about the next milestone.

You've lost all that weight, you should be feeling fabulous!!!

I don't remember big pens shooting water up in the air with spinning testicles so it probably wasn’t. Sounds like we went to the wrong sex show, damn it!

A friend of mine did a 50 at 50

Challenge, she did things completely out of her comfort zone, ticked things of her bucket list etc, she finished on her 51st birthday at Stonehenge when the sun was coming up (hubby is a photographer so managed to sort it out)

Failing that so what the mother in law did and have a big party lol.

Geeky x

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's just another day or it's your 50th and you want to acknowledge it. There is no right thing to do.

You started a thread about it and that tells me that you want to acknowledge it. There are already lots of suggestions here or you could just dig deep and unearth what you really want to do.

Your father having an op is not great but it doesn't stop you having a moment to mark your day and, perhaps, celebrate on another day.

I did 50 things I've never done before throughout the year I turned 50. This year I'll go to the theatre to see Hamilton (not on the actual day but close enough).

If you've got a handful of people you want to spend a small amount of time with then you could do a locked room challenge. They're great fun, only last a couple of hours and you feel like you've achieved something.

Whatever you decide, it's your day to do with what you will.

I'd suggest having a professional photo shoot!

You've lost a shit load of weight, you're celebrating a mile stone birthday. Have a little mini makeover, hair and makeup, glass of champs and get some fabulous photos of yourself taken...you'll feel a million bucks afterwards

Hello Gorgeous

Let a nice Scotsman take you for dinner followed by a late night visit to my favourite den of iniquity where you can try anything you have fantasised about and much which will never have occurred to you.
