I need to get fit overall, but want to really get to grips with my amazingly curved tum - I know I’m going to find there’s no shortcuts.

But I am determined to be proud of my body this year. And my ability to affect change in it. I am so incredibly lucky to be mobile and healthy, so no more naval gazing for me!

Without sounding obvious (not an attack either) it’s proved that eating less and moving more is the only real lasting way.

Fad diets work, but never really last.

Exercise can be very small initially for instance getting off the bus one stop early and walking that last bit.

Little things make a big difference, but it’s harder to get thinner and fitter than it is to get fatter and less fit.

A good start is pay a personal trainer for a couple of sessions so you can do things the right way, rather than trying to guess.

Another tip is not weighing yourself too much and getting disappointed some people’s weight can massively fluctuate daily.

Above all good luck!

AFAIK, spot reduction does not work. Ideally, you want to reduce the fat content overall.

Sexercise (what an idea!) or not, the key idea is to have a calorie deficit at the end of the day. That could be done by eating better and exercising more. That means you may want to cut down empty calories (i.e. food without nutritious value) and give yourself a good workout few times a week (such as weight training) .

Good luck

The best form of exercise for burning calories is swimming in cold water. Gradually getting used to cold showers can help with acclimatising to the cold.

Using intervals on a bike is also good for burning calories.

compound exercises like squat, deadlift, bench press, shoulder press and bent over row are also good for building lean muscle which increases your metabolism.

Fat reduction doesn't happen locally so you will lose fat from where ever your body can use it for fuel easiest.

Intermittent fasting is also very good for weight loss especially because of the hormonal changes and other benefits it has.

Eating fat in moderation can also help cut fat.

Keep it simple

Make healthier food choices and drop calories by 10-15%

Gym 3 times a week, lift weights first for 30-40 minutes then cardio for another 20-30 minutes.

Don't worry about diets involving fasting or any of the other fads that are always doing the rounds.

Watching this with interest!

I have a pot belly I'd love to tone up (I can't afford to loose weight though)

However, I do suffer from back pain, so I need something to balance it all out.

I love the sexercise idea, however, as I can't find someone to have sex with, I need other ideas, so open to suggestions

Once your happy with your eating changes then do any and all activities that you enjoy and will be able to do regularly. Try to make it fun.

As a few have already said, diet is key.

And as many more have said, any sort of activity, like Pilates or yoga, will really force you to rediscover you midsection muscles and will no doubt have a tremendous carry over to other activities, bedroom or otherwise, that you may be thinking of engaging in. Good luck

I lost a stone and a half over a year or so going to regular zumba classes. I've been going for ages now that I'm not seeing any changes to my body anymore so I've joined a gym.

My belly is still a fucking disgrace though, short of surgery nothing will sort it!!

"well sex obviously but maybe try belly dancing.

I fear my belly can already do its own dance

AFAIK, spot reduction does not work. Ideally, you want to reduce the fat content overall.

Sexercise (what an idea!) or not, the key idea is to have a calorie deficit at the end of the day. That could be done by eating better and exercising more. That means you may want to cut down empty calories (i.e. food without nutritious value) and give yourself a good workout few times a week (such as weight training) .

Good luck "

You speak sense. And it’s good to read it clearly written. I shall get this done.

Rowing machine. Start off at 5 minutes. Sit up! Lean forward at the backstops. Get your arms away over your knees before moving your bum (think about it - in a boat the oar would just crash into your knees).

Great for the core and good calorie burn. Plus you can wear small shorts

"The best form of exercise for burning calories is swimming in cold water.

Eating fat in moderation can also help cut fat."

I like cold water. I think wild swimming may be a thing for me.

Weight training to build overall strength. Squats, deadlift and free weights. Then lots of cardio.

There’s nothing that will reduce just belly fat. It’s overall fat that needs to be reduced and the only way is to burn more calories than you consume. Cut out sugar.

Try a few different sports, pick something you enjoy and will stick to. Do some gym classes. Get a gym buddy (shouldn’t only rely on a gb) or hire a good personal trainer. Stick with it and you’ll make improvements. Good luck!

Thanks! I need a gym buddy! I need a gym! Oh fuck. "

A good personal trainer is worth their weight in gold. Do some research and get recommendations.

If you want to train at home invest in a decent kettlebell and a yoga mat. Super cheap and there’s 1000s of really good workouts from expert trainers on YouTube. Consistency is key. Develop a routine, record your progress and stick with it.

Don’t be ridunculous!!

I’ve got funny eyes, a goofy grin, boobs that have no right being as full of flesh as they are, a belly the size of a 15month pregnant lady, and I’m clumsy and graceless. I promise you, my photos are artfully poised to mask as much of the grotesque as possible!

The great thing is the kind folk of the world still deem me rideable! Hurrah!

You’re gorgeous, I’m gorgeous and there’s sex for everyone!

Eventually for me I'm sure

I adore you x

You are both beautiful people

A willing volunteer, for us both! "

"The best form of exercise for burning calories is swimming in cold water.

I like cold water. I think wild swimming may be a thing for me.

I need someone to show me the other things, I read the words and get a little panicky. I need someone to take me in hand "

the water is about 3 degrees out side at the moment so I would waiting until it gets to at least 18 degrees so it's not as much of a shock.

Start with the intermittent fasting that will save you money because you will be eating less and you;ll have more free time as well because you'll spend less time shopping, cooking, eating and washing up.

The money you save could go toward swimming or gym membership.

You can have breakfast an hour later than normal each day so by the 7th day you are having breakfast 7 hours later than normal and can skip lunch.

During the day put coconut oil in your tea or coffee to help your body get used to burning fat for energy rather than carbs.

Jason fung is probably the leading expert on fasting and he has some videos on youtube.

And obviously lots of sexercise helps lol

Not too much it can cause diarrhoea if it' too much.

Coconut oil is fat so your body doesn't get hungry when you have burnt through the carbs stored in your liver, brain, muscles and blood.

Fat has 9 calories per gram which is more than carbs (4 calories per gram) but it doesn't spike your insulin so your energy is constant, unlike carbs which you need to eat every 2 to 3 hours.

"Pilates, yoga, fasted cardio

What does fasted cardio mean?

It sounds like not eating? How can that be a thing? And it sounds like you’re suggesting doing it and then moving and shit?!

Pilates and yoga, seem to be solid suggestions from everyone.

Fasted cardio, go for a brisk walk before breakfast. You don't have to be as weird as I am and go running for miles or any thing

Now you see I cannot help but think that fasted cardio is a silly idea. I have neither your physique nor a degree in sports nutrition but if I do a big erg or water session without breakfast then I run out of energy and feel shit.

I'll admit it takes some getting used to.

training your body to work on empty and use what ever reserves you have takes a while.

Yes but is it actually any good for you? "

I'm not sure about any long term damage it may cause....when ever I had to cut weight, I ate my food no later than 4pm and trained every morning at 6 before breakfast at 8.

Other people would water load and then train in sweat suits to drop weight, that's gotta be worse than fasted cardio right?!

Fat is unused calories so as long as you're using more calories than your consuming you will lose the fat.

Cardio is the best way to burn calories, especially Tabata training or HIIT as it creates an energy deficit so your body burns calories for hours after the workout too.

I would include resistance training as it has numerous benefits but that's down to you.

Fasted cardio, fasting in general is fine and a good way for many to lose weight. Better yet, there’s a growing body of evidence suggesting some interesting, positive effects on many important blood markers. That said, there’s also some evidence that many women don’t react well to it. Nothing death defying, but the weight loss benefits are often not realised by many.
