Do you play guitar? Iam thinking about getting another one as not had one for a while. Thinking of a Les paul Studio for around £200 .

What is your best and worst guitar you have bought?

Don't think I've ever had a particularly bad one, just ones I haven't used.

Above my head right now is a Variax Standard, Harley Benton semi, a Dean custom and a Squier Tele. All nice in their own way, but I tend to grab the Tele.

I used to hate them until I discovered how versatile they can be, probably because the pick ups are so very different in tone. I've even managed to get some Strat-like tones from it.

Loving my Variax at the moment. Also have an Ibanez 7 string, PRS Santana and a shitty Fender Acoustic

I use a standard strat, I love them, if I got another electric it'd be another strat, but a relic custom shop one. Got a nice Martin acoustic too. I wouldn't mind trying out a decent variax guitar...i like the idea of changing the tunings instantly.

If you like Strats then the Variax Standard that I have is a Strat-like guitar, as in three single coils. It's made by Yamaha and is closely related to their Pacifica range. Worth checking out.

What ever you buy,get the action set up. It's a big mistake most new to the instrument never have done. Much nicer to play once it's been set.

I still have fond memories of my old Yamaha SG. I had the classic black with white trim. That was somewhere between my Tele and a Les Paul, so it was great for gigging cos it covered all the bases and only one case to carry.

Worst was a semi-acoustic, I can't even remember the make but it went out of tune so easily. I sold it to a friend who doesn't play and he's never bothered learning. I'm not surprised with that POS.

The first one i had that i just could not let go was my Hofner Galaxy, still got it and play it most days at some point.

From about 1978 until 2013 i also had a Gibson Flying V that i could never put down, but for some reason and i could never put my finger on it really, i started to fall out of love with it. I bit the bullet and sold it in 2013. I can't say i miss it a great deal, but it was always a very good "gigging" guitar, that i do miss a bit.

I’m a drummer but also had a bit of a go at guitar.

Really like Ibanez guitars, really good for speed playing.

Not a massive fan of Gibson SGs

I had one way back, which was a silverburst finish that looked great but they're awkward to play sitting down, which is why I got rid of mine. I'd watch friends pick it up and try to stop it sliding off their lap. You've got to wedge your leg between the V but then that defines the position you have to play it in, more like a flamenco guitarist.

I always wondered why flying Vs were popular among blues players. I figured it was some kind of status symbol.

I'm quite small, so never really had any problem playing it sat down. Most of the time i play standing up anyway, which was never a problem to be honest. As it happens i have a friend who is a Flamenco guitarist and he always loved it and said it was the best electric guitar he had ever tried.

Looking back i think the reason i fell out of love with it was the action no longer suited the way i play a guitar now. As we all get older, the way we play and the things we play do change...........it's just that we don't always notice it early enough.

I don't think it was ever a status symbol to be honest, it was just a very very good blues guitar.

Gibsons SGs have funny strap huck on back of body.

I've got a gorgeous Gretsch Double Jet, it's my first electric guitar so nothing to compare it with. If it doesn't sound great it's my fault rather than the guitar!

It's the sound he's able to produce with his finger movements I find erotic. It's sight plus sound.

My worst, Marlin Sidewinder, basically a strat copy. My first guitar 30 years ago, so didn’t know any better.

My best, Pensa MK1. Could probably buy a decent car for the price, but it’s stunning to play.

Don't think I've had a bad guitar....Taylor GS Mini is current acoustic favourite and Fender Tele is the go to electric.
