Has anyone seen this news story?

Shocking behaviour from the uniformed gangsters.

That should be the trigger to retrain all of the force.

Too many times the pigs over there shoot dead unarmed innocent people.

Luckily in this country the police are not blood thirsty and trigger happy

Bristol East

I suspect it happens so often in America that its news value no longer shocks.

A country with a violent (and deeply racist) heritage.

Is this in reference to the "swatting prank" I think the police must have a really difficult job as it is when working within that kind of gun culture but to have people pranking the police with claims of homicide and hostages is just asking for incidents like this.

It's a pity that we don't see the same outrage when innocent people are shot by criminals!

Even so,the police do seem to have gone in with a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mindset.

Get a grip. Well done for forgetting to comment on the fact that someone had called saying he had shot dead three people. Yes I’m sure lessons can be learnt but failing to identify that the person making the hoax call is the real cause is inanely stupid.

The fact you call them pigs etc suggest a prejustice that is a very ugly trait

Happy new year

The police in the US have an awful, largely thankless task. This has given them a very defensive approach to pretty much every encounter they have. That said, this looks like a bad shoot. The man was stood in his doorway, hands raised, but when he dropped them it was perceived by at least one officer as reaching for a gun or something to cause harm. Personally I think he will find that hard to justify, although in the subsequently discovered to be prank call, 'he' was threatening to kill hostages and torch the petrol soaked house. The attending officers were aware of that and any move could be considered hostile towards that aim. It's a shit sandwich for the police.

You know all 3/4 of a million of them then?

The ones that ran towards the Twin Towers as others ran away. They were arseholes too I suppose, and countless other incidents.

Yes they have a different mindset, but so does their society.

Don't forget, police arrive, resolve situation and nothing happens, nobody hurt, doesn't make for good news stories..

Hiding in the shadows

Friday night in my sleepy village, sirens blaring, helicopter hovering above.

2 teenagers, 15 & 17 went on a shooting spree, a 12yro boy got shot in the throat.

Armed officers called to respond.

The culprits were caught, chased into a garage compound a few yards away from my house.

The police, didn't use their weapons, but I'd fully support them if they did, if it had come down to it.

When it comes to protecting innocent people v shooting someone who is happy to shoot back, then it's a no brainer imo

I read a statistic yesterday that said that from 1968 to 2011, more Americans died from gun violence in the U.S.A. (1.4m) than Americans killed in all of their wars from the war of independence to the Iraq war (1.2m).

Americans are outraged & demand malpractice suits when a toy is faulty & causes a death. Kinder eggs are banned because the toys & plastic capsules are considered dangerous. But kids get killed in a mass shooting & it’s the guns that are protected, not the victims.

Go figure!

"It's a pity that we don't see the same outrage when innocent people are shot by criminals! "

1. When criminals harm innocent people we express outrage by catching them and bringing them to justice; now, who do we rely upon to do that? The Police! So what happens when...

2. The Police ARE the criminals shooting innocent people [?] and...

3. They go unpunished in the vast majority of wrongful death cases.

4. The reason there is a higher degree of outrage is because we are paying criminals to 'protect' law abiding citizens. Criminals are operating as the law. Surely you think that's cause for outrage.

At least when the police are obeying the law we stand a fighting chance, but when the law is lawless...

Always love the armchair quarterbacks when it comes to these situations.

A friend of mine in the US is a service police officer. He was shot and injured and his partner was killed when they went to investigate reports of cars being broken into.

They chose to do a difficult job, to protect people - they don't get up in the morning and think ' i am going to kill someone ' - they just want to do a good job and come home that night to their loved ones.

That's the price they and many hundreds of members of public pay for the right to bear arms.

Looking at police fatalaties in isolation lacks context. This is a country where mass shootings happen every single day.

i see a great photo from the US, a woman holding a plaquard with the words "Why do you prefer to see two men holding guns than two men holding hands?"

the US gun laws are just too lax, but with the pro gun lobbyists being deeply entrenched in American politics, nothing will change and people shooting others in the name of "self defense"

christ, in a certain state it is illegal to attend church and not carry a gun!

And while all this goes on, every year, children die through getting hold of and playing with their parents guns..

We in the west look at countries like Afghanistan as a lawless place where tribes still fight and its ok to carry an assault rifle, which considering the last 200 years of their history with invading forces, is unsurprising..

the US is no better yet we look at them as a civilised country...

They have yet to prove it..
