Is darts a sport, or just a pub game?

World semi-finals on atm, and I've just heard there's £400'000 for the winner of the 'tournament'

Holy shitballs, I need to get me a dartboard n some beer.

They stopped drinking while playing years ago, on the TV anyway.

Can't say I'm a big fan but of course it's a sport, a game of skill like other.

If you pay tax it's a sport. If not it's a past time.

I'm pretty sure they pay tax on their winnings.

Sport.

Takes a huge amount of skill to play to that level under enormous pressure. Sport doesn't have to require athleticism

.. In my humble opinion

I'd say it's a sport which at one point was a pub game

Same could be said about snooker or pool

Who cares? A lot of olympic sports are based on combat and killing stuff as well as physical prowess. The olympics are pretty much on the level of the Eurovision Song Contest now.

Not a sport.

To be considered a sport there has to be some level of physical exertion in my opinon.

It's got to be a sport when advertising is involved, and bidding for television rights.

Seriously, if one or more people agree to compete against at each other, so there's a resulted winner or loser, it's a sport isn't it? That's the best I've got in it's defence

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

unfortunately for all those darts fans, Darts is not a sport, it is a game of skill, along with snooker, pool and chess and is recognised in the UK as such.

Oddly, chess is recognised by the Olympics committee as a "sport competitive" where the objective is to win, which pretty much also covers any other game from darts to tiddlywinks so i don't really think they have a clue what they are talking about, pretty much like most committees...

Someone from BBC sport is reported to have said "Until they do more than bend their elbow and wear out a short bit of carpet walking back and forth, darts will be nothing more than a game", slightly sarcastic but does hit the nail on the head.

so there you have it, its a game which when played professionally has a few quid to be won..
