Was the AIDS virus man made...

Just watched a documentary about San Francisco, it covered the time when homosexuals and lesbians embraced their freedom, there was a very interesting edit where a government official said:

"men have never been having more sex in the history of the world than the gay men in San Francisco at the moment"

He was asked, what will happen next,

He answered "I can't answer that"

I just wonder if the maniacs in charge thought they could target the homosexual community and messed up big time. There's so much conflicting reports of the origin.

I believe it was man made. I don’t think it was specifically for homosexuals but a weapon to stop enemy populations from breeding and it got out of control.

Just my theory though

I know mate, believing that it was transferred from monkeys (which were known to carry the virus) to humans, as opposed to evil bond villains creating it in a lab in an attempt to genocide homosexuals... how childish!

there is plenty of very clear research on its origin.

Maybe look up a book cslled 'the hot zone', it will explain, very comprehensively, in laymans language, about the research into HIV and Ebola, and similar viruses.

Most 'contradictory' reports usually end up being either tin foil hat crap, or quasi religious bullshit!

There is still a lot of ignorance surrounding HIV and its not very helpful to make up ridiculous conspiracy about something so serious for some sort of entertainment. As well as the fact that if you chose to believe it was some sort of man made disease to out certain sections of populations, then it hasn't really worked has it?

there is absolutely no need to be so rude...there are hundreds of books on the subject, i just mentioned that one because its really good, and explains its research in laymans terms. It is not the ONLY piece of writing on the subject. And yes, the facts are there, in thousands of research papers, for anyone to see.I was not 'vicious' at all.

Personally I hope HIV is a man made virus made in the 50's when biological warfare was heavily researched.

My reasons for this hope is that natural viruses are extremely efficient at mutating and surviving, where flu has been found alive frozen in ancient ice, or inside sulpherous abd hot volcanoes.

So far acid as mild as saliva, minutes at below body temperature or dead skin cells are effective killers of HIV, if it is from nature that won't be true for long. But if we made it, then there was a cover up, our grand children may not be in more danger than we are.

Surely not everyone would keep quiet about its origin if manmade. Let’s think about it. To produce a virus as virulent and specific would take years of research and hundreds of clinicians.

What is more unbelievable is that with the passing of time that not one of them has come forward!

Goid point..I always ask that, but if they did, would we believe them.. especially if the organisation disowned them and said they were looking for attention,it would take many people to come forward if it was man made.

You only have to look up the similarities between HIV and SIV to see that it's an easy mutation.

It doesn't take much to work out that a BBV transferred during such a bloody operation as hunting, killing and butchering primates.

Viruses can mutate and infect different species, HIV didn't originate in humans. It originated in monkeys. The humans hunted, butchered and ate the monkeys that were infected. Then the virus entered into the human population. It then spread through human to human blodily fluid exchanges. These were things like sex, blood transfusions, pregnancy, breast feeding, unclean medical equipment etc.

Is that clearer?

The established and credible sources of evidence suggest that the different strains of HIV developed from SIV caught off different species of apes, such as chimpanzees. It's potentially been around in human populations since some time between the first and second world wars.

People who have money making motivation have created other suggestions, often in books, though the conspiracy theories are discredited. The scientific literature is not closed to anyone with credible evidence but alternatives to the established theory have not really been significantly published, in order to create divergence away from the weighty credible SIV origins theory. This leaves cross contamination via blood or other bodily fluids into humans from apes as the overwhelming likely route between animals hunted and consumed by them.

I lost a friend to it. He'd been a junkie but got himself off when I got to know him. He eventually moved to the country with his girlfriend, gone back to his trade and was engaged. Then bam. He said, "That's what I get for putting shit in my arm." Less than a year later he was gone.

And it's on the rise again among young people, due to the ubiquity of anal sex in porn making them think anal is a standard part of sex.

Yes, I read books, so use words like ubiquity.

Another friend's mum worked at an HIV clinic. She said the gays find their mothers and the junkies find God. It's the straight people who just get bitter and blame the person who infected them, without taking any responsibility for their own actions.

I once saw a profile here of a woman who wrote she was diagnosed HIV+. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I think I've ever seen.

But sorry to interrupt, please carry on with the important detail of how it originated.

There are theories that it was man made.

I don't know if I believe them or not.

I do believe that there is a vast difference in the world as its presented to us by the the media (television, films, magazines and a great deal of the internet) and what's actually going on out there and folk who believe the presented version of things are fairly...daft.

Thing is...there so much info out and about that unless you personally go and collate data and undertake real study to determine the facts yourself you'll likely never really know what's happening out there in the world..easier to live in a pre determined system of living and believing (go school, collage, uni, gap year, job, mortgage, family, car, spend money all the while on stuff, possibly pick a religion..any will do, they're all the same basically, or maybe have a kink or two, a nice hobby perhaps, obey any laws your told to, support a sports team and teach your kids to do basically the same things) because it's the option that's easiest, we've been programmed to think those outside normal lifestyles are weird or crackpots..and nobody wants to be branded a crackpot so most people just conform and live a standard life and eat up the standard lines given and regurgitate them.

Give conspiracy a chance..at the worst, it's a laugh to read

(Except flat Earth..that's mental )

Myxomatosis was indeed man made. It is a genetically altered virus set to be more virulent and effective, then released to reduce rabbit populations. (Rabbit specialist veterinary nurse... I know my buns!)

However, personally I don’t believe HIV is manmade, there are too many similar viruses in other species and populations and the first recorded case is more likely to be the first case given that label than the first ever seen...

Ah here is your problem

Scientific method

The books that illustrate how factual things are use scientific method , they show how the conclusion was made , for example the aging of earth strata which can be cross referenced with carbon dating which can be cross dated with other methods

The methods and the conclusions are printed anyone can and they do indeed , try to find the errors in the method or conclusions

These are then also tested by the scientific method

I think we will find zero tangible data to debunk the millions of human hours spent illustrating why hiv predates the Crackpot conspiracy lie

Not all ideas or words written in books are equal , some have VAST amounts of cross referenced scientifically robust research behind them

The. Oh we once thought x and now, argument is a misnomer and illustrates a total lack of understanding with regards to humanities knowledge and how it is formed and ironically illustrates how knowledge can be robust

Has it not been about in humans since at least the 1950's? First discovered in blood from the African continent but present in the Gorilla population. Since the virus doesn't live out of the body for long, the inference is it was cross species sexual contact.

More likley to have been butchery - more blood contact and the people doing the butchery probably weren't always wearing PPE, so any cuts they had would have come into contact with infected blood.

Ah, here is your problem...

You may want to look up some recent studies such as the New Yorker that are showing a backlash with the good old 'scientific method' or the report my John Baumgadner PhD that list problems like:

1) many of the crucial processes occurred in the past and are difficult to test in the present;

and 2) personal biases are especially strong on topics related to origins because of the wider implications.

Amongst many other opinions on scientific methods

"Just watched a documentary about San Francisco, it covered the time when homosexuals and lesbians embraced their freedom, there was a very interesting edit where a government official said:

"men have never been having more sex in the history of the world than the gay men in San Francisco at the moment"

He was asked, what will happen next,

He answered "I can't answer that"

I just wonder if the maniacs in charge thought they could target the homosexual community and messed up big time. There's so much conflicting reports of the origin.

Definitely I believe (from the research I’ve done) they were going to use it for a cure for hepatitis.

One thing I thought all the time was, how did a disease predominantly found in African heterosexual people have an outbreak in the homosexual population in America?

What kind of research have you done? Primary research? Meta analysis? A literature review? "

Lol as much as most Christians

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

AIDS has been traced, by DNA, to a virus found in apes.

immunodeficiency isn't specific to humans, many animals suffer from it.

Although transmitted differently in other animals, the outcome is very similar.

It just happens that when the virus mutated into a virus that could infect humans, its path of transmission was through semen and vaginal secretions (also blood and breastmilk) which meant that it was a prime target among promiscuous groups that didn't practice safe sex, in particular the gay community as there was no worries of unwanted pregnancy.

Man made viruses are in their infancy, to create a disease that would specifically be transmitted in semen to only infect gays (as is being suggested ) would probably be impossible today, let alone in the 70's and 80's.

Its just another non story doing the rounds of the Internet.

Ah, here is your problem...

You may want to look up some recent studies such as the New Yorker that are showing a backlash with the good old 'scientific method' or the report my John Baumgadner PhD that list problems like:

1) many of the crucial processes occurred in the past and are difficult to test in the present;

and 2) personal biases are especially strong on topics related to origins because of the wider implications.

Amongst many other opinions on scientific methods

"

1) No they aren't - this is the point of the format of peer-reviewed journal articles, all experiments should be easy to replicate (clue, it's under the section labelled "Method")

2)Personal biases don't alter results, and if bias is suspected, experiments can be replicated (see:1).

Also; something is not generally accepted into theory unless there is a significant weight of research behind it (not one lone paper).

Do you understand the scientific method?

When was the last time you conducted a scientific investigation?

Whilst trying to wave your "scientific investigation shaped cock" let's look at what I was meaning when I said there's a "problem" with your school textbook scientific methods..

Replicating an experiment and getting the exact same findings is difficult. Why? Regression to the mean. As an experiment is repeated statistical flukes get tossed out.

The peer review process is flawed. Peer review is ultimately tilted to positive results.

Publication bias - Journals and scientists aim for being statistically significant and this leads everyone aiming for positive results. We don't want to see a null result. Researchers are "significance chasing," or interpreting data so it passes the statistical test of significance.

Money - For instance, pharmaceutical companies have little interest in publishing results that aren't favorable. Validating a hypothesis is all the more gratifying if there's financial gain to be made.

I guess you'll be busy with your scientific investigations the rest of the evening.

Outliers get removed from datasets, if there is sufficient reason for doing so. Anomalous investigations are still included in the literature, so I'm not sure what you are on about.

The whole point of the oft used phrase "the research suggests that", is precisely this.

Actually on the whole they don't (or shouldn't), rigourous scientific method should be attempting to disprove your hypothesis, and if you can't, then you accept it. There have been one or two cases where bias has been exposed and papers disregarded, science is not dogmatic.

Researchers in most fields are not "significance chasing" because they realise that proving the null hypothesis has as much potential to be significant in the long run as disproving it.

You may have a point within the field of pharmaceuticals, but most research undertaken (see the sheer volume of seemingly obscure journals) has little potential to be lucrative, at least in the short term.

Many many years ago, an adolescent monkey was masturbating in the tree tops, when it noticed a goat, that had wandered of from the rest of the herd, and had got itself stuck in a bush below. The monkey could see the rear end of the goat, with it's raised tail in the air, and it's anus looking so inviting, thought ! Why jerk my maggot, when I can nip down, and stick it in the goats ass so the monkey done exactly that. Moments later, the goat herder came along looking for bleating goat. The young goat herder, who was also a young horny male, saw the same sight as the monkey, he also decided to stick his cock, and off load inside the goat.

Later that day, the goat herder was still feeling. randy, and decides to fuck the village bicycle.

The few years later, a group of european's on safari came to the village. Over a period of time, most of the european men had fucked the village bicycle.

Back home in europe after the safari, the men fucked their wife's, servants, and each other.

The moral of the story is. Always wear a condom, as you don't know who the other person has been fucking, or where his cock has been

More likley to have been butchery - more blood contact and the people doing the butchery probably weren't always wearing PPE, so any cuts they had would have come into contact with infected blood. "

Unlikely. The virus doesn't stay alive in a dead animal.

A truely Bayesian approach would be to start with a priori set of probability distributions, let say 50% Chance gorilla and 50% chance man.

Based on new evidence we adjust our distrubution accordingly.

Now I’m not an expert in this, but I would guess the posterior distribution is probably weighted heavily towards gorillas. Now while that may not rule out man, arguing the toss about strategic biases probably not adjusts the weightings slightly towards man. Especially as the evidence for man is (based on this thread) a pregnant pause or an ambiguous answer.

Otherwise I await equally voracious attacks on evolution, homosexuality, the moon landings and the need for sleep to survive.

The irony in all this can point too many things in causing HIV in human race , if for example the scientists isolated the virus there curiosity to weather it was able to infect the human race would of been tested on subjects without there knowledge possibly in form of vaccine. Don't forget of experiments done on army personnel or other communities with dangerous diseases or man made biological disease.

Especially in america . many of today's treatments for cancer was result of research of baby's been given cancer through a injection which there parents thought was a vaccine to protect their child.

Also don't forget the Nazis did experiments on pow and the concentration camps which was inhumane thing to do. The research ended up in the hands of the Americans as well.

So to say the above discussion holds no ground and that it was from animals been eaten I think both sides has merit of reasons HIV has spread whether it been from dirty goat herder and village bike or from help from science.

At the end of day everyone has responsibility to be carful and not pass on std no matter what it is . just saying

One of the theories I've heard is that it a man made virus and about population control particularly in the African nations how true this is I don't know. I never know what to believe when it comes to disease and medicine given that people are being cured from some cancers in the use of cannabis oil yet governments won't licence it as it will put the big pharmaceutical manufacturers out of business.

I believe it was a manmade disease, naive to think it was not some form of biological weapon experiment gone wrong or right. The scientist of the 18th to 20th century were known for extensive human experiment and projects the number of millions that died in such progressive discovery time period is unfathomed. You only need to look at the history of weapons and war. The fact that that scientific/media says it is a mutated disease from a monkey is laughable humans have been around the globe since the begin of time have been eating all sort of animals to survive and suddenly we notice HIV in the late 20th century. If HIV was before the 20th century when bacteria and disease ran rampaging but somehow exclude HIV before sanitation system in place, contraception, will definitely have been used as a weapon before any sort of medical intervention.

My scepticism. Some of the scientist and doctors in that time period makes Hitler look like a saint.?

The scientist we are meant to trust about 50 years ago, Sugar Industry simply paid scientists to point blame at fat now we have an epidemic of obesity.

This.

While I would hesitate to jump on any 'theories' without careful consideration, I am at the point that if some of these things did turn out to be true, I wouldn't be surprised.

I think just believing whatever the media says is at least as much a problem as anyone being a crackpot.

No real founded research, just a bit of reading from various sources.

My field is physics, I teach it at A level along with maths. I’m usually a massive de bunker of conspiracy theories and agree they are stories to keep the bored housewives busy trying to find a reliable way to measure chemtrails etc.

I don’t get aggressive, shove down people’s throats as I’m not that type of person, nor do I try to ‘re-educate’ people about what I’ve read and think, hmmmm now that’s possibly plausible.

Have I tried to actually prove it? No, I don’t have the time energy or inclination.

I have a lot of friends who go to church and believe in god. Have I tried to prove their imaginary friend doesn’t exist? No because they are free to read a book that is made up of pretend stories and go to a cold leaky building to talk to someone who doesn’t exist.

Nobody attacks them and calls them imbeciles etc, etc. They genuinely get called nice people.

If somebody wants to believe a monkey with a zoonotic disease shagged a goat then a lad then shagged it and caught said zoonotic disease, leave them to it.

If they start shouting their mouth with only anecdotal evidence ask them to prove it.

I have a mate who’s an obsessed flat earther I’ve done a few experiments with him to show him why I think the earth isn’t flat, he’s shown me his YouTube videos. He’s still obsessed. I even showed him why the Bedford experiment was flawed.

Top and bottom of it, believe what you want discuss like adults don’t die trying. Peace out.

A few points from the responses above -

1 if HIV was to be used as a biological weapon wouldn’t it be more effective if people didn’t take so long to die! Now infected people can live long relatively healthy lives so it’s not really a weapon at all.

2 would scientists really allow blood transfusions without knowing the effects? What if it infected them or their family? I don’t think scientists would play Russian roulette with their families.

3 in the 21st century we should still be encouraging and practicing safe sex. The risks seem to be forgotten or ignored.

4 research is funded usually by research councils (UK), pharmaceutical companies, charities (Cancer, asthma, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Crohn’s, etc). Not all the research is unbiased but should be able to be replicated to support the findings. Too often the pharmaceutical industry rushes to produce products that have not been fully tested.

I’m not sure what the intention of the original question was but it certainly created a debate. The OP should embrace the suggestions and make his own mind up.

Personally I don’t really care where it came from. What I do care about is how it affected a good friend of mine and robbed him of his quality of life, his wife, his chance to have a family and of his ability to play in an orchestra. He was a talented musician who was infected through a blood transfusion. He was taking over 30 tablets a day to manage his condition.

Have your discussions but remember that for some HIV and AIDS is a reality and not to be taken lightly.

Be safe.

I'd been in a situation basically where I was called on to play with a lady who had just been barebacked by a stranger and I was the next course on her menu...

I politely refused

But I could not believe how willing people are to risk there sexual health all for the sake of wearing a condom

In my mind if someone goes around randomly barebacking there either drastically uneducated or they have nothing to lose...

Hiv is real and although the treatments are good it will undoubtedly ruin your life

Rubbing your bare genitals against someone else's feels great and yes it's horny as f#@$

But is it really worth your life?

"Has it not been about in humans since at least the 1950's? First discovered in blood from the African continent but present in the Gorilla population. Since the virus doesn't live out of the body for long, the inference is it was cross species sexual contact.

More likley to have been butchery - more blood contact and the people doing the butchery probably weren't always wearing PPE, so any cuts they had would have come into contact with infected blood.

Unlikely. The virus doesn't stay alive in a dead animal.

You do realise you bleed an animal you've slaughtered as soon as you've killed it, don't you? "

And how do you do that, then, once it's dead? Bleeding out is a cultural choice.

I'm wrong- it may have emerged as far back as the 19th century. When and how SIV mutated into HIV isn't known but it's associated with times of people displacement and increased consumption of bush meat both in Africa and in South America. So, apologies.

Now, if I can find that through Google and educate myself, why couldn't the writer/director/producer of the piece mentioned in the o-p?

Doesn't work unless the heart is beating. We like pale meat and we have a diet supplemented by anything we want and don't need the blood in the meat...so we stun then slit the vessels in the neck. If you kill with a spear or an arrow, the blood is clotting by the time you get to your prey and it won't bleed out.

It almost certainly wasn't man made. The last thing we need is yet another crackpot conspiracy theory.

That's what I love about opiniated people that refuse to accept any alternate theories ...everyone 'else' is a crackpot "

To true, I'm pretty sure it was man made, I watched a good documentary on the subject a while back vaugily remember lots of interesting theory that support it being man made.

I have no idea but it does seem to make a bit of sense it was man made and related to homosexuality

For a very very long time it was made out that only gay men get hiv/aids and the media supported this 100% , when in fact anyone who has unprotected sex is at risk of catching it and numbers now show that 48% of people treated in 2015 were through 'straight' sex and 47% thought gay sex.

"I believe it was man made, although similar viruses exist in Primate populations, there's even a similar viruses that affects felines.

Probably an experiment that went wrong, after all most nation's have tried to develop biological weaponry of some strain over the past 100 + years, and I guess it still goes on. "

Damn clever of these 19th century scientists then, to recognise and isolate the virus in parts of the world they'd only just discovered then mutate it somehow to be capable of living in humans and in cats ( bit of a cat- hater there). All so that its spread in humans can kill homoesexual men in the First World in the 1980's. Pretty forward thinking.

However. Most who claim to be Christian do not claim to believe or follow any particular part of the scripture , the all have their own specific , none specific thoughts which we are unable to know

All we know is they believe Christ is the saviour and god is his father and a creator

Beyond that we will be told we don't know what they believe, hence my question upon their take upon their gods specific and most deliberate design of hiv and the torturous tuberculosis

Not really the first possible diagnosis were in 1959, but no confirmed diagnosis until 10 years later, while AZT was produced and licenced by US government in 1964.

All history of the virus is conjecture with no actual evidence.

So it is sufficiently shaky to be made up (well it is actually made up) as if it existed nobody was looking for it until about 70 years later.

Only if the animal is killed. Most hunts with a sort or arrow result in disabling not killing. When the hunter reaches the disabled animal then he kills it.

A rich source of energy is blood. Some people will , do, have d*unk the blood direct from an animal. It taught in survival training.

Humans did create a virus to cull cute fluffy rabbits even though they seldom bite people's legs off lol.....mixy was man made for that very reason

Didn't see your last paragraph lol. But who's to say there isn't a creator/more advanced race/thing that's just as sadistic as us humans that liked rabbits and was enacting revenge upon humans in a karma like way "

Hang on... are you suggesting that the one true god, may be a fluffy bunny

That will fuck us up at the pearly gates won't it

"Is why do they think their creator created hiv and tuberculosis

First things first, I do not believe in a creator God or any other term.

But for the sake of argument...

Rabbits are nice, seldom bite people's legs off and a good food source for many creatures including humans.

So we created a parasite born disease to keep the population down.

Maybe hiv and tuberculosis are simular in purpose if there is a creator?

Yes and humans are stupid malicious and sadistic

Your point is an all knowing creator fully knowing the consequences

Humans did NOT create Myxomatosis. It originated in Brazil and is a natural virus.

What humans did do was introduce Myxomatosis into the rabbit populations in certain countries ( Australia and NZ) where Myxomatosis was unknown in an attempt to cull the species

Central

The evidence trail and depth doesn't really support the conspiracy theory. But if the flat earth theory seems feasible to you, then thos HIV one could be up your street too. Plenty of explanation just in this thread that should give most people a fairly clear understanding of how this virus probably came to humans.

I am just grateful that in the 50 or so years it's been around and known about, it has infected relatively few so hasn't mutated into a stronger virus that can pass by other means, or survive on door handles etc.

Hope they can do more to stop it soon.

"No, it came from humans eating "bush meat", or infected monkeys.

Indeed, just the same as Ebola, Vice did a good documentary on it a few years back.

Cats can get AIDS as well, which proves it's a natural occurring thing."

AIDS is a condition of the HIV infection, not a virus in its OWN right.

Monkeys, chimps = SIV

Cats = FIV

Humans = HIV

Cats acquired it through natural hunting of Bush meat before domestication.

HIV in humans has been tracked back previously WW1, but was probably in the human population before that, before travel and was isolated to certain tribes in Central Africa.

So yes in some way, westernisation did spread HIV!

If it mutated to spread easier, it would then also become less harmful or easier to treat!

There are millions of harmless viruses in the human body.

TB is bacterial and been around for centuries, before we had the ability to engineer!

Myxomatosis was first seen uraguay and spread by fleas and mosquitoes. Yes indeed it was introduced to Oz NZ, to cull.

can you explain that please? are you saying its just a matter of putting more cash into research? or that somehow, not having a cure yet is profitable?..and have you not absorbed any of the above? it wasn't made made by man/woman!!!

Ah indeed my bad

We had certainly established that you believe in a god , it could perhaps be established you believe the Christian god

I will apologise as I have not met a Christian who does not think their god is a creator god

That's a whole new concept I would love to learn about . So surely a god that has not created/designed the universe and all within it is not actually a god but just an alien life form and does this concept not go against the Christian doctrine you suggest keeps you from stealing ?

"Damn clever of these 19th century scientists then, to recognise and isolate the virus in parts of the world they'd only just discovered then mutate it somehow to be capable of living in humans and in cats ( bit of a cat- hater there). All so that its spread in humans can kill homoesexual men in the First World in the 1980's. Pretty forward thinking.

Not really the first possible diagnosis were in 1959, but no confirmed diagnosis until 10 years later, while AZT was produced and licenced by US government in 1964.

All history of the virus is conjecture with no actual evidence.

So it is sufficiently shaky to be made up (well it is actually made up) as if it existed nobody was looking for it until about 70 years later."

Investigating the trail of viruses is a bit like doing an ancestor gene test- the trail is done on an intercellular level. Our ancestors aren't alive but they can be traced back. Somewhat similarly, virus pedigrees. The exact date of first emergence is debatable but certainly about 80- 100 years ago, if not before 1900s
