"... whom would you consider as being closer to you, your child or your life partner? The recent death of someone I knew got me thinking about this. Being childless, I cannot comment on the bond between a child and his/her parents. However, I am of the opinion that I cannot choose my parents and siblings as I was born with them. This does not mean I have to get on with them or even like them. Life partner on the other hand is of my own choosing, therefore he would be closer to me than my parents and siblings. How about you? " No one should have to choose between a life partner and a child. Not even considering to which one you are closest. These are distinct relationships each very different in their needs and responses. A partner can never take the place of a child and a child should never be a sexual partner. I would always support my children before my partner as they are dependent upon me as children. Any decent partner would recognise the need to support children into early adulthood. Things could be viewed differently when the children are adults. They should not have such an emotional hold on their mother/father that they can cause a rift in a relationship. Children will leave home eventually and set up with their own partners and be quite selfish about it so it is important for people to keep their own relationships alive despite their children's feelings. We all have various roles. Mother, daughter, parent , child , wife , lover. The more successful relationships you have the better life is I'd guess. I pity the person that has to pick between their own blood and their lover. The two are just not comparable. Nor should they be.

"Its different levels of relationships. Callum was 21 on tuesday and it was a very emotional day. The day i gave birth it was like one of my arms had been cut of and gained its own life. Unless you have a child i think its very hard to understand (its also hard to explain) the love that you feel for a child. I would die for my son with out a seconds hesitation. Jay, is my soulmate, we where ment to be together, we share everything, he knows me better than i know myself. He is my world. BUT, i did survive before he came into my life and although i wouldt want to and dont even want to think about it i would survive again. My mother, my mother has been my backbone through out my life, there is nothing she wouldnt do for me or me her. Only when i had my son did i realize how much she loves me. My mum has been there everyday of my life. " thats really emotional and so nice xx
