I ran a recruitment business for 18 years

I never knowledgably shafted anyone

It is not an easy industry to be in at all

I actually have a couple of times. But they were specialists in their field with many years of practical experience before starting their own recruitment agencies not just the usual salespeople.

I've met some lovely ones, some manipulative ones and some absolute lying bastards.

Same with every other profession.

Apart from estate agents - they're all absolute lying bastards.

KIDLINGTON

The guy who has placed me in my job was very good and we worked as a team to secure the role.

Actually so.far not had a bad experience when either looking or hiring.

"No, the same with estate agents."

I did a couple of years as an Estate Agent and the best compliment I ever got was "you're too honest to be an estate agent"!

Tbh they were probably right as all the shady bastards made all the money!

As for recruitment consultants (sorry Talent Acquisition Specialists as they now call themselves ) I've dealt with about 2 decent ones in the 2 1/2 years I've been contracting. The current one is fantastic compared to her peers and although young is a credit to her profession.

I've worked in Recruitment plus have used a lot of agencies in the past 2-3 years whilst looking for work.

Some were good, these tending to be the sole trader, the person running their own business.

The not so good ones seemed to be the multi consultant agencies whose sole task is to get as many people on their books as possible but do bugger all for job seekers.

One agency in Glasgow, in my line of work had a consultant who, when his name came up as dealing with specific vacancies, potential candidates wouldn't contact him as he'd NEVER return calls, emails or any other correspondence. God knows what he contributed to that company?

There are good ones and bad ones; you learn from experience.

I've had experiences with two recently, as I'm looking to progress my career.

The first put me through for an interview as a project manager. I have no experience in that kind of role, so I was setting myself up up for disappointing news from the start!

The latest one deals with internal recruitment. Sent me the hours etc of the role and it turns out the position is more hours than I was told (not the end of the world). Sent a thank you email a couple of days after the interview asking when I might hear back and she replies that she'll be in touch the following day.

Haven't heard a scooby!

Very amateurish for someone working for a company that's on the times 100 best!

Can’t stand them. Phoning you just for a catch up to see how you’re getting on, no mate I’m busy if you’re lonely phone someone else.

Phoning you with promises of jobs, just to get your cv in their bank.

I had to report one for harassment at one point I was getting around 10 emails and 5 phone calls everyday from the same person, I told them I wasn’t looking for temp work and to stop phoning me, but they were like a dog with a bone.

I avoid them like the plague I now approach employers directly.

Following my recruitment consultant tirade, I've landed a new job, which ironically is a recruitment based role!

I found the vacancy directly with the employer, so my previous view of recruitment consultants still applies

I worked for a South Yorkshire based agency 1990's, the staff were brilliant, the boss was a money grabbing wee insect.
