Do you tip your taxi driver?

I don't very often use them myself, but always give a little tip for their services.

Being a minibus driver I know how hard it can be out there... and quite often I get tips for my services too.

So over to you lot... do you or don't you?

Hiding in the shadows

I always round up to the nearest full pound if it's a short journey, under a fiver, if a longer journey then I'll add more.

One of best friends owns a taxi company, I know how narrow the profit margins can be in that business

I tip anyone who provides me with a service if they’re prompt, polite, friendly and have made me feel like my custom is important to them.

Lately I’ve experienced twice the most rude, incompetent taxi drivers I’ve ever met and as a result gave them no tip.

On the flip side I had my hair cut on Friday and tipped £10 as I felt the whole experience was worth it.

Unless I had more change, yeah.

Taxis round here take advantage of the almost complete lack of public transport when setting their fares. The more cynical would call them robbing bastards. So no not a chance.

Where I used to live, yeah all the time

As a company owner I know the costs are very expensive, and a tip is always appreciated, but never expected.

I rip our taxi driver every single time, usually about £4 a time, but that's because they go out of the way to get me safely home right to the door.

Very rarely use taxis and very rarely tip.

I don't tip in general, has to be exceptional service for me to give a tip.

I try not to tip.

It's an insult and a throwback to Lords and Serfs.....

People should be paid a decent living wage.

Some of you who tip - earn less than the taxi drivers.

When you go into Sainsburys do you tip the girl on the till ?

Do you send Amazon a couple of quid ?

Do you send a hefty cheque to the local police station every now and then ?

Who gets off the rush hour train and runs to the drivers cab waving a fiver ?

Try to stop tipping ffs......

I once tipped a taxi driver 5p. It was intended as a comment on the way he treated me and I felt it sent more of a message than no tip at all.

I generally tip even if the service is just ordinary, doesn't have to be outstanding as far as I'm concerned.

They need to get drivers who have the correct insurance too!

Last I heard drivers were using their car insurance... no public liability or business use.

With taxis, if booking over the phone, get the price. If they are also hackney carriages, don't let them put their metres on. These are robbing bastards (and should get their licences revoked).

If it's a pre booked price then the meter shouldn't be in anyway

It's a rare occasion I can afford to pay for a taxi, it's a real luxury for me and only done if the thought of lugging the heaviest rucksack an inch further makes me want to cry. So no, no tipping, especially as I don't get any help at all.

The prices they charge are ridiculously expensive as it is, so, I'm pretty shocked at reading this thread, especially in these times of austerity where the general populous' disposable income is continually being squeezed by ever increasing inflation and pay also not keeping up.

Where do people get the extra money from to be tipping.

The whole tipping thing is wrong!

People should earn a decent wage not wait cap in hand for a tip...

We will end up like the US where waiters don't even have a wage, all they earn is tips.

Thats no way to live surely...
