Guys, Domesticated!

In these days of equality, guys are you domesticated and do you ladies appreciate it or do we still see certain gender roles?

I was pondering this while ironing my shirts for the forthcoming week.

I am very domesticated.. inthink on relationships I become the doer type... e.g. get shopping sorted washing done cooking etc.

I don't mind doing it and when I have time cooking things from scratch is one of my favourite pass times.

Have always done so, both have worked during the last 33 years and just see it as getting stuff done..

like any partnership there are things one doesn't particularly relish but still needs doing..

I also live alone, 10 years now. To be honest I love it, yeah sometimes the house can be a mess but it does get blitzed and restored back to normal from a cave. I think even if I had a lady with me, I wouldn’t change with the domestic stuff.

I was only just saying to someone that the only domestic skill I don't possess is sewing.

I live alone, so I cook, clean, wash and iron. If I don’t do it, it doesn’t get done.

As well as any other DIY jobs that need doing.

But even when I lived with my ex, I cooked, mainly because I enjoy it

Can't fault you all, are you happy with this ladies? I ask because I know one or two women that don't like their man helping as they see it as their role.

I do all the housework and we take turns with the ironing, dishes and cooking, I’m about as domesticated as they come, I even put the toilet seat down when I finish

Both of the men in my life were reasonably domesticated.

My ex bad been in the Navy and so he always did his own ironing (saved on rows), cleaned (when i was in work) and did the majority of the cooking.

My step-dad was a couch potatoe and i watched my mum do everything for him whilst he just sat on the sofa and didn't move (except to bed, the loo or work), and i vowed i'd never get with a man like that.

I’m executive in charge of ironing, it’s a good job, I should think myself lucky

You need to share the work, it’s only fair and I could never sit down or go out while the other one was working. You’d have to be pretty desperate to ask me to cook but I can in an emergency, otherwise I do all the other stuff that doesn’t take skill

I really don’t like that term ‘domesticated’. Seems to be based on a pretext that this is something men shouldn’t be doing. I can’t get my head around it. I just think it’s laziness when someone doesn’t want to iron their own clothes, hoover the house or do some cleaning etc.

I love doing all that. But then again, I’m a bit of a clean freak and like getting things done.

Mr is quite domesticated, he makes me coffee and does his own washing ironing etc. I am quite traditional really and like to do the traditional roles of a woman and I enjoy cooking and looking after my man, it’s just difficult when working.

Not sure about the term domesticated, but I do all the ironing and the dish washing, with a little bit of other housekeeping, whilst Kaz does the rest

Seems only fair

Personally I like a house trained man.

In a full time relationship I think some gender roles happen naturally. For example he may take on those that require more strength

Hiding in the shadows

As a mother, I've raised all my sons (3 of my own, 8 Fostered) to be independent & domesticated.

Last one at home is 13, he can cook a full roast dinner - still gets the washer & tumble dryer confused though!

One day future wives & girlfriends will thank me

Me, Mr

Just cleaned the one oven of the Range to within an inch of its life.

Took me a couple of hours but I think that qualifies me as domesticated.

I hate the word domesticated in this context. It makes them sound like a dog that has stopped shitting on the carpet.

Are there

really men out there who are so incompetent they can't wash their dishes, clothes or keep their home tidy?

If there's any blokes living with women who can't or won't do the domestic stuff, then they need a swift kick in the bollocks.

There's no excuse for being a lazy twat and not sharing household tasks. It's called being an adult.

Works both ways here too...I crack into the household stuff as much as anyone and she's often to be found doing the 'blokey' stuff..up ladders terminating cables or mixing concrete to name a couple

More fun when you can get on with jobs together rather than separating them up based on genitals

Up on them there hills

To me, domestication comes in many forms, the need to break the domestic energy and create a “free” energy is why I suspect a number of people are on here.

Or as Freud implied, moving the ego out of the way and allowing the freedom of the I.d to play while the superego is suppressed.

Not at all. I don't ever wear anything that needs ironing.

I don't think I've picked an iron up for more than ten years.

Fully domesticated here, just like the rest of the siblings. We were taught to cook, clean, look after the household bills etc before we left home, a family tradition that served us well.

My ex husband washed up once in 30 years, except when I was too ill to leave the sofa; never did the laundry or vacuuming, and ironed once-and he burnt my silk blouse.

It seems strange when a man does things around the house, as I'm not used to it.

It feels wrong.

I agree with the ironing Coments, fuck that.

I'd rather go out wearing a shirt creased more than grandads knackers

Than pick an iron up.

On that note I threw the exes ironing board in the garden a while ago, Romanian land pirates were on it like a tramp on chips, never to be seen again.

I’m not very domesticated so if a man wishes to do some of it then crack on. I wouldn’t feel comfortable if he did it all though, it would feel like a have a servant. While I switch in D/s, I have no desire for a servant at home, I need a manly man

My partner does most of the work around the house. We both work similar hours and he proberbly travels more than me for work, but he still does most of it (although cooking we more or less split). I just don't have the brain capacity usually for sorting out jobs around the house when I've been working, and he does. So he sorts stuff out.
