I had this last weekend, took what I had, and several hundred more overdrawn.

Card declined in a shop, so embarrassing!

Seems my ebay was hacked & they went via PayPal.

It's still being investigated.

It's a horrible and upsetting shock even if you are likely to get the money back.

The only tips I have are

Never use your correct date of birth on anything on line.

Never share anything on social media that could lead people to your exact location or name.

Never respond to any email or text from your bank asking you to click on a link or call them.

Never give information on the phone to anyone who rings claiming to be from your bank.

It doesn't matter how plausible someone seems on the phone never, ever give them any information. If they tell you to put the phone down and ring your bank to verify them, don't.

Cover the camera on your lap top or pc.

Always keep contact less cards in a protective wallet.

In short, trust no one when it comes to dealing with finances on the net or the phone.

This won't stop people buying PayPal details on the dark web. I'm afraid.

Thankfully I've done most of my shopping

I had saved to go shopping tomorrow and visit my daughter

It won't stop me because I will still go regardless as I had bought the train ticket a couple of weeks ago

Yes my daughter will have to wait that little while longer for her Christmas money

And I have a little cash in the house so I'm not penniless like some who are a lot less fortunate

But If it's gone via my PayPal I certainly will be closing that down and won't be buying from eBay again

Have you linked your bank account to PayPal?

Be prepared for the fraud team to ask if anyone else knows your pin too.

Hope you get the money back.

A previous neighbour gave her son and daughter access to her on line bank account. Money went missing and when she noticed and contacted the bank mysteriously reappeared. In the meantime her son bought a new trailer. I'm not saying it was her son but the bank couldn't find any unauthorised transactions.

Fraud is bad but it's worse when it appears to be your own family.

All monies was paid back in,I've actually had this twice now.

I would say the only time I have been robbed is when card was used in shop on train station. I had only used the card twice once elsewhere , and it took ages to process my card they got a mobile fr M car phone wherehouse

I now use credit card for everything and only use cash transactions from either the bank or reputable cash machine (not in local shops or in petrol stations)

I'm pretty sure I know where my details were hacked from, loads of runners have had similar experiences after using a specific entry system. I'm opening a second bank account just for using online and will transfer money in to it as and when I use my card online. It's not fool proof and it's an inconvenience but far less of an inconvenience than having my accunt wiped out just after payday
