Soda is the leading cause of obesity.

It's literally the equivalent of showering in the sewers.

Try to get your 5 fruits a day, I recommend bananas, apples, kiwi and blueberies.

Also hydration, the most neglected aspect of dieting. You need to flush the bad shit out, so drink plenty of water.

Eat fewer calories than you burn.

I don't generally think it's helpful to put foods into "good" and "bad" groups. I prefer to think of foods as "energy rich" if they are high in calories, and you only need a certain amount of energy to fuel your body through the day.

For example - Sodas have a lot of sugar, therefore they are quite calorific (ie have a lot of energy), but then so do bananas and oats, both of which are classed as "good" foods by a lot of people. However, when you think about how full a can of pop will make you feel compared to, say, half a potato, its kind of a no brainer where you should "spend" your daily energy "budget".

Also; I find that when people deomonise certain foods they have adherence problems, insomuch as they then tend to covet them.

When I wanted to start losing weight, I was about 18st and I just started cutting "non-essentials" from my diet - for example; I always had a bag of crisps with my lunch. I stopped, I then started having one sandwich as opposed to two etc. Soda wasn't a problem for me, because the only soft drink I drink is tea. I stopped having sugar in it. Small, managable changes go a long way....

Yes, change your diet and set aside 25 minutes a day and buy T25. You’ll find details online if you search for T25. Good luck

Thanks for the tips good appreciate it I really do, I kinda know the good and bad stuff and what I need to achieve my goal. But you guys have given me more than enough information to help me on my way, it's nice to know that there are people there to give advice. I know it will be easier after a period of time, it's just the initial start and having the motivation to see it through, I know it will be worth it in the end.... So here goes, a new healthier me...

That's why I say small changes, mate.

Loads of people go mad at the start and only eat soup for a week or some other very low calorie bollocks and then they realise that they can't do it and give up, they then associate weight loss with their extreme diet and decide that they are "meant to be fat" or somesuch other arse.

Thankfully I've never really liked fizzy drinks, whether in original or diet/no added sugar. Will occasionally have lime & soda but that's very rare. Huge tea & coffee drinker though.

I have 4/5 pieces of fruit most days and then plenty of veg. Don't crave sweets/crisps.

Watch out for the calories in alcohol if you drink.

Think I read that we should be aiming for 2 litres of water a day but if you intend taking up that challenge increase the quantity slowly as you'll be more likely to adapt.

I hate the gym but gave it a try. Much prefer brisk walks whenever I can, even to the point of purposely parking a little further away than I could.

Been said already but making smaller changes will help you stay on course & become the new "norm"

Try hill walking at a decent pace, and as it gets easier start carrying a little extra weight on your back. Fresh air, exercise and some good views! Just don't do what a lot do and "reward" yourself with bad food after exercise, it defeats the object!

My issue with losing weight is eating right. Im such a fussy eater (like seriously fussy) that "healthy foods" are limited and i get bored

If budget will allow, have you considered investing in a fitness watch of some description? I bought a Fitbit just over a year ago and really like it. It’s helped me to be more conscious of how active (or inactive) I am. It also prompts you to think about what your eating and plan meals a little more carefully. I don’t believe it’s entirely accurate, but it’s more like a psychological reminder to move a little more and think twice about those in-between meal snacks.

Don't eat anything processed or ready made. Make all your meals yourself and don't add sugar. Cut out pastry and only have granary bread and brown rice.

I should really take my own advice and get back to healthier eating.

Some great advice. I m a mountain runner, so do work out and yoga but also dance. Now I don t expect you to do that but dance can be a great way to exercise and keep the joints in working order, especially something like jive as it can be quite fast but also great fun, loads a groups out there, but certainly get to know your foods and eat when you re genuinely hungry??

Everybody wants a miracle diet/cure but there isn't one. Just eat healthy and, as pointed out, basically put less calories in then you use, simple really.

Here's how even fitness people get it wrong.. A real good distance runner could t understand why he was running big miles but putting weight on fast... After a Lil quizzing they got to the answer, he was so hell bent on keeping to his fast times that whenever his pace dropped he d have one of these specialist energy bars for athletes.. They re junk food that's jumped on bandwagon of getting fit as they are a very short term sugar hit.. He was eating loads to keep his pace up.. Vicious circle but shows even dedicated athletes can get their foods wrong??

Again thanks for the advice peeps, I just need to educate my brain into eating the right foods and doing the right kind of exercise that suits me. I'm going to find the dedication hard to begin with but I do want to achieve this. I am not going to start after Christmas either that's how dedicated I am...I must be mad...!! I'm gonna start tomorrow..

A few basic things that work for me when I've needed to loose a bit -

Cut out sugary snacks and drinks.

Drink a lot more water

Eat 4 or 5 times a day.

I reduce/cut out carbs (as i could live off them!) So no bread, pasta, potato, white rice.

Bit more protein.

No food after 8pm ish

Do a little bit extra walking.
