It really makes you sit up and realise actually how bad it stretches when you see it thousands of miles away. When bear gryls. Ran the island show you could see the stuff that got washed up. But what it’s doing to the animals is painful to watch

Agreed, however when mankind and money are involved then the chances of a positive outcome for the planet diminish greatly.

Probably not as much as you'd think. Unless you specifically targeted those doing the majority of the damage.

Plan our survival of the changes.

Should we stop asians pumping chemicals up into the upper atmosphere that are causing holes? Yes

Should we stop dumping pollutants like plastic in the sea? Yes

Beyond that, the only question is, if we are speeding global warming up or not, and its a pointless question. We can not lock climate in place so we need to plan to survive its change.

If an animal will die due to the world being a few degrees hotter, then thats sad for the animal but oh well. We are animals too and we need to make sure we can survive it.

Blue planet clearly states that coral reefs are important for bio diversity for example, but they clearly state that the mechanisms that support most life in the sea will keep working through the heating.

You do know the reefs took over as other life died due to it getting too cold? and they will likely return?

I mean people said that cows bred to provide meat for people were causing all the pollution. We now know that if everyone in the US turned vegan global warming would speed up.

They say cutting down the rain forest causes global warming, but its impact has been measured as minute, and grassland vanishing causes more problems.

We should move to green power, and less pollutants, not to lock the world in its current climate, but to insure we can survive forever. Thats about it.

Well that Kim bastard could make a start by not dropping bombs on Japanese fish for starters.

Then we could start cracking down on beach goers who leave their trash behind at the end of the day.

4 shipping containers (on average) fall off ships each week.

Shouldn't have to but put a reward for handing in plastic bottles to be recycled like we used to with glass ones.

It's just the standard green lecture programme on the standard left-wing, climate change obsessed BBC.

The same organisation that sends weather reporters half way across the country to stand outside to present the weather, because that is nice and green isn't it.

And it's easy to come on here and virtue signal about sorting it all out, which is what most of the posters are doing, and to insult me by calling me Trump.

And what are these people going to do? Turn up the heat, as it is freezing cold today. Drive their nice new car to the shops and buy all those things for Xmas that have come all the way from China in container ships. Remembering that as soon as Xmas is over they will need to book their holiday to get some winter sunshine in the Caribbean.

And when they get there, they will go to one of those places where they can swim with dolphins. And before they can do that, they will get to watch another environmental film, with the same message as Blue Planet 2.

And there is not a hint of irony in the fact that most of the customers come via cruise ship, and there is a timeshare presentation on the way out!

It

Shouldn't have to do fuck all but the sad state off us is we do. Same goes for land animals we seem to be intent on wiping out.

I still think though with all these boats chucking shit into the oceans, leaking stuff, the sewage, other factors it's not just about water bottles, fish and trip trays and carrier bags.

"But how much of this is programme exaggerated to peddle an agenda?"

I think, if anything, the show didn't really claim enough about the damage that we're causing - possibly because the programme is sold to many countries, including the USA, where such messages are less welcome.

There is masses of solid research evidence upon the hugely damaging effects that humans are inflicting upon the planet, including the oceans and fellow species. The episode seemed to offer some thought provoking insights on the damage plus mitigation strategies, as well as positive uplifting stories of how some people are making real contributions.

It's heartbreaking the severe harm that's being done to our beautiful planet.

"...

You could have just let it at too many humans...

Some are worse than others but with the best will in the world every single human on the planet (except possible a very few very very isolated subsistant living tribes) is contributing to this upcoming disaster.

What really gets me is that this plastic problem was known about & shown in multiple documentaries more than a decade ago yet nothing has been done about it, - it's just been allowed to get much worse.

It's not even just the massive contamination caused by plastics.

Temperature rises aren't killing the marine life, it's the rising acidity levels caused be excessive co2 and toxins released from the plastic poison.

A huge amount of our oxygen comes from photosynthesis from marine plankton and all other marine plant life. We kill those off, we are officially fucked.

Our natural carbon cycle is already unbalanced, we won't see any improvement in our life time. Or we can do now us start implementing changed to try and redress the balance for the sake of future generations.

I live on the coast. 6 miles across the sea we have a nuke power plant.

4 miles to the right is a coal power plant.

In my town is a big chemical plant.

It's a cold morning, it's crisp and frosty, the sun is low and bright, would make for a beautiful winter scene.

That is, if it wasn't for the three different kind of smoke/vapours lifting into the air this morning.

Never mind the other side of the world, this is my door step.

What you say is spot on. As the less developed countries don't have recycling or the means of proper waste disposal they just dump crap anywhere . They can't afford proper disposal schemes and there's half the problem . I say only half as most of the developed nations ( including us) do have the means but don't give a shit !!

Nonsense!

The country that you mention has allowed the experiments since 2014, and they have not been successful. Major plastic users have tried to use it without success.

There is a massive incentive to be successful, because the breakthrough would net the successful producer $billions.

Apart from getting the plastic to the right standard, hemp is not as green as you seem to claim.

You need pesticides, a lot of fertiliser, a great deal of water, you need the farmland and you need a lot of labour to harvest it.

There is a vast difference between growing something naturally and a commercial crop.

You can grow a few strawberries outside in your garden by doing nothing to them, but that won't exactly satisfy an order from Tescos for a few million strawberries of the right shape, grade and flavour.

You are just talking nonsense.

AGAIN ........ The subtropical & temperate , (even tropical in places of elevation) parts of the planet is loaded with areas favourable to growing hemp, that's why it grows so easy there.

I've seen a plant growing on 12"" of gravel that was laid 6 months earlier; not because it was planted there, only because someone dropped a seed there!!

And there's plenty of labour in third world countries, - better than sitting around & waiting for aid!

We have become a throw away society and that is the main problem. We want it new, cheap and now. We don't buy second hand as that is now totally shunned by the majority and we don't repair anything anymore. It breaks because it is cheap and not made to last so we replace and the old item goes to landfill.

I cannot remember the last time we had anything repaired...

And I repeat - whoever is successful would make $billions. No one has been yet. The incentive is there. The law allows it. It is not as simple as you are claiming.

And collecting aid is much more profitable.

Except that if you look at the past and see what has really changed the planet it has been natural phenomena.

Massive temperature changes, from blazing heat, to freezing cold. Earthquakes, volcanos, floods, asteroid strikes.

These are what has made the planet what it is and uninhabitable at times.
