Not drinking on a night out

Friends from work often go for nights out. Some people only have one drink as they are driving. They seem to be accepted into the group ok.

But some friends don't drink any alcohol at all and this seems to be generally frowned on and they are made to feel out of place.

What are your thoughts on this? Should the people not drinking any alcohol just stay home?

I gave up drinking almost 15 years ago. When you tell people the reaction is quite astonishing. May as well tell them you want to face fuck their nan.

I’d love to be able to not drink on a night out, would save me so much money over time!

Unfortunately I’m a pretty quiet person so need a few drinks to come out of my shell a bit. Plus I find d*unk people really annoying when I’m sober!

Definitely wouldn’t judge anyone for not drinking though

If I'm in a party drinking mood then I prefer to be with others that drink as the evening seems to flow better. Aside that it doesn't bother me in the slightest and I've been the sober one driving on many occasion.

I've had years when I was the driver and not d*unk any alcohol on a night out. As my friends aren't total arseholes they couldn't give a toss that I wasn't drinking. They got a lift home.

Agree with two of above posts but even so I'm constantly asked at work "what, not at all?" or " do you think you will again?" Saying that I don't go out to the pub.

They certainly should, we can't have this sort of anti social-behaviour. An evening out isn't any fun if someone doesn't get over familiar, think their rubbish jokes are hill air ious and tell you how much they've always liked you.

Although I’m a complete piss can I do sympathise with this.

I always try to include members of our group that want to socialise with us without boozing, unfortunately not everyone is as inclusive in the environment we circulate in.

As someone who does occasionally stay sober it’s very difficult to last an evening with d*unk people, I usually have to ‘disappear’ before I fall out with them.

Nope my man doesn’t really drink and I accept that- plus it means I have a taxi I enjoy a Drink but have done 2 nights out recently where I only had one because I was driving and I really enjoyed keeping my wits about me. I used to drink too much so I prefer this new me and I think my man prefers it this way too

My son had a bad accident the other week and I went back to Kent to go and see him, that evening I walked into the pub and asked for a tap water, after what we’d been through in the last 24 hours I should have asked for a shot but I just fancied a nice cold glass of water....my friend (also the barmaid) gave me a gin and Diet Coke, I still didn’t get that pint of cold water!!

I hope not , as I haven’t touched alcohol for 25 years now , and our favourite play nights are at pubs . If I stayed at home I wouldn’t get to see my wife being naughty !

Sometimes I drink... Sometimes I don't... I don't think anyone questions my choice either way. There was a little teasing last weekend that I wasn't drinking at the social (I was hungover from the night before), but nobody treated me any different because of it.

Neither of us are normally big drinkers. Though we do occasionally fancy a few...

We wouldn't choose to spent time with anyone who had a problem with a decision not to drink.

If I'm driving I prefer not to drink at all, unless we are having a meal, in which case just the one.

I don’t drink and get questioned on it a lot with people not understanding or finding my choice weird. Pub nights out where people are getting d*unk are not for me. I prefer the company of one or two people where we can properly connect rather than crowds or parties these days. I feel like I don’t fit in with bigger groups, and that’s not just because I don’t drink.

I’ve never had any issues with or heard of people having issues with anybody who is not drinking or doesn’t drink. So hearing all of this stuff about being ostracised is somewhat very strange.

I’ll tell you what I do have a problem with!

“If I’m driving I will only have one “!

About time time the drink drive limit is lowered to below 50mg

I rarely go out when folk drink because i think alcohol never improved anyone, people i like just piss me off when they're on booze generally..the only way I don't mind them so much is to be on booze myself but I find it a horrible substance these days, I used to like it but the effects and come down the next day do nothing for me and I'm not putting up with them just to make other d*unks tolerable, lost a couple friends to it over the years, it's not nice stuff. Still, you can get it over the counter all nice and legal so all is well i guess. I just avoid areas piss heads frequent now

Am happy not to drink on an evening out or day come to that,I can take or leave alcohol. If I'm driving then I won't have any alcohol at all.

Sometimes I'm a very inexpensive date and feel inebriated after one, other times it's a much larger amount.

I can be fun with or without alcohol and I certainly wouldn't judge someone who doesn't drink at all ... there could be a thousand reasons why they don't ... that's the sad thing with life today; many people concentrate on everyone's lives but their own....

I'm out until 6am tonight and won't touch a drop as I'm driving and it won't stop me having a great night

I think not drinking and being frowned on is dinosaur thinking, who cares as long as everyone has a great night.

Not great friends if they judge you by what you drink rather than the company you provide

Catch you later on today as I'm going to enjoy my night out

Perhaps I'll fill an empty beer bottle with water and stand holding that. Fed up of people asking why I'm not drinking and making me feel like I should fuck off home.

Tell 'em that drink turns you in to a psychopathic murderer then slowly draw a stilleto blade from your sleeve while smilimg menacingly. That'll shut the blighters up "

I'm so going to do this!

I do enjoy a wine or two if im out but I've a friend that does not drink alcohol. I wouldn't say it's frowned upon.

"Friends from work often go for nights out. Some people only have one drink as they are driving. They seem to be accepted into the group ok.

But some friends don't drink any alcohol at all and this seems to be generally frowned on and they are made to feel out of place.

What are your thoughts on this? Should the people not drinking any alcohol just stay home?"

I’ve been tea total now for 9 yrs I’m probably lucky that all the girls I work with except me for it ! I still have a laugh and a dance and they get a free lift home

In a town Fab forgot

I don't drink, haven't had a drink for 20 years and don't miss it at all.

If people want to drink, fine by me, live and let live.

I don't need to drink to enjoy a night out.

If people want to pressurise me into drinking, or take the P, they can feck off.
