Just watched a brilliant programme on John Noakes and he was asked, just after he'd quit Blue Peter, if he'd miss the fame. His answer was so insightful....

"fame is in the mind of others, it's an abstract quantity, it doesn't exit really"

Do you reckon our modern so called "celebrities" would feel the same about fame?

couple, us we him her.

The world is full of fame whores these days and people after a quick fix to success unwilling to work hard for their success and demand instant gratification.

Subsequently most don't last and they usually fade into the background as quickly as they appeared.

Show's like big brother and xfactor have just created a substitute for hard work and a group of sub celebrities who are only famous for being on a reality show.

Occasionally someone decent will shine through but even then they still have to work at staying famous.

But ultimately society has put some much Kudos on being famous these days and they are lorded over and fawned on. I doubt many would be willing to give it up easily.

Brilliantly insightful and well said. not sure about the hard work though, I'm sure their pr/management teams just use them as performing seals.

Being related to someone currently in that "fame bubble" I have a little bit of insight.

I went to school and keep in touch with a very famous and very talented actress.

She loves what she does but she hates the fame, to the point she has almost given up a few times as the fame is very real, yet an unwanted burden. She especially hates the tag celebrity and will shoot down anyone who calls her a one.
