Fave classical music pieces

Always had an eclectic taste in music, from iron maiden Metallica and gnr, through Motown, to house and dance music. Especially piano house from the 90's

But I've always enjoyed music, and lately classical music features more in my listening, again pianos particularly. Claire de lune and moonlight sonata are obvious favourites, along with Mahler piano quartet in A minor;

Can any of you suggest some more I should be checking out?

Somewhere In The Ether…

In addition to the likes of the mighty Beethoven and Mozart, Chopin composed some of the finest piano works so I’d definitely recommend him.

There and to the left a bit

Holst's Planet Suite has always been a favourite of mine.

Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyries is another one that stirs me.

Elgar's Nimrod sends shivers down my spine every Rememberance Sunday

Barber's Adaggio For Strings is also very moving

Listen to Radio 3s equivalent of the breakfast show for a couple of weeks. They play a wide variety of classical music and it gives you an opportunity to hear things you might not have heard before.

Pavarotti and that tune are indelibly linked to Italia 90 for me and that piece always brings back memories...

He does a mean vesti la giubba which I picked up first heard watching the untouchables, and the scene with de Niro laughing at the opera. Such power and emotion sends shivers down my spine.

There are new ones here for me to explore though, so a big thank you and keep them coming, I'm listening on each new suggestion.

No you're wrong, the topic is to name your favourite piece of classical music, not to name the best in the world according to other people's taste. This is something that has always ground my gears, why do people think it's ok to downgrade someone else's personal taste before stating their superior taste.

From your OP, I reckon you would like Schubert, Debussy and Chopin.

Some of the suggestions here seem akin to someone posting that they like Elton John and asking for other things people think they might like and being recommended Megadeth.
