I'm a little late with my Christmas baking this year (and my decorations aren't up yet either!), but I'very finally got my mixing bowls out... Do you bake or buy... And if bake do you use old family recipes or from a book?

I tried to use different recipes for Christmas Cake and Plum Pudding once (just for a change) and my family almost rioted. My recipes for those are generations old too. Mince Pies though are all my own imagination lol.

I'm also a late starter on the cake front, the main ingredients have been melting together in a boozy haze on the stove this afternoon.. I shall assemble it tomorrow.

Ply it with more drink for a couple if weeks and then slap some marzipan and icing on and voila... I still do the spikey icing and silver balls,so everyone can chip a tooth...

It so much nicer than the roll out stuff... Althiugh if you add a little glycerine it makes it easier to cut.. And shards of icing are less likely to take an eye out. X

Tbh there have been years where I wish I was allowed to buy... Or that another family member would bake... Even last year when I was on my own for Christmas I was expected to bake and send them on But this year I'm enjoying the prep

I bake. But not Christmas cake. I make a good fruit loaf, no peel.

I usually give half to my dad.

I make an awesome mincemeat cake. Tastes similar to Christmas pudding.

I can remember as kids being asked to stir the pudding mix and make a wish... And then fighting over who got to lick the bowls and spoons afterwards lol.

I don't buy sweet stuff anymore... If I want something sweet then I've to go to the effort of making it... Makes you think twice lol. But if I'm in a humour to bake, the kitchen could be filled with muffins, bread, tarts, quiches, biscuits, crackers, gingerbread.... I end up giving most of it away then to friends and neighbours.

I always bake and use Delia recip, there would be uproar in my house if I didn't.

I'm also late this year, so I'm doubling up on the alcohol.

I've made my Christmas cake, but still have two more to make, a Christmas pudding, mincemeat then the following mince pies, pickled onions but that's a bit optimistic they'll be ready in time and if I have time I might have a bash at making Stollen.

Ginger
