Do you think being anonymous on the internet is a bad or a good thing, which camp are you in?

I know there are government reforms around the world which are meant to change and monitor this but that is far from happening anytime soon.

And to be honest, we're nowhere near as private with our lives as we used to be, so would it really make a difference?

It’s far too easy for scammers to use your details so the less available to them the harder it will be.

i for one wont be doing the over the phone banking - just seems way to sensitive for info to be picked up - im a paper and pen kind of person

No social media here pretty much always use a vpn on my home network if you know what you are doing it’s easy to become anonymous. ie removing metadata from digital photos etc

If you loose the anonymity such cases could be probably spotted and reacted to before they happen!

You can keep somewhat anonymous. As in Bert down the chip shop probably won't recognise me from my thumb.

I believe 'they' have ways of spying on wrong 'uns but I'd assume the issue is sheer numbers. 1,000 (-ish ?) anti terrorist coppers and fuck knows how many dodgy communications to sort through.

It's not really news that CIA is able to listen through mobile phones when they're 'switched off', use laptop cameras etc. In fact all mobile phones within 60 mile radius of the U.S. president are monitored.

Yes Ben from next door might not know you like to wear a horse mask when having sex but there are people who can hack pretty much anything.

I think it's a lot scarier to know there could be people watching than having certainty that some people are watching.

Having been the victim of financial cyber crime and having my pics on here shown to the plebs at work I am very pro internet anonymity. I keep my details to the absolute minimum now.

I do understand the need to trace criminals however. It's a fine balance I guess.

We're not really anonymous anywhere. Store loyalty cards know your shopping habits, missing people's last wherabouts are shown on CCTV even our cat's microchipped. It's nothing new in years gone by your neighbours knew all your business, now the whole world does.

A few stupid decisions by MPs and our ways of using the internet could change quite markedly - just look at the UK porn site law change in 2018, as an example.

I'm ok with anonymity, although view the internet as open to the authorities to glean whatever they want to about us.

Online anonymity is important and should be protected. The argument of it being used by criminals so should be banned is to me as valid as banning knifes on account of its use by criminals.

While I personally am not too fussed about my traffic being known, everyone deserves the right and freedom to not be under constant scrutiny.
