I don't think you can truly compare the original Who with NuWho, so I'm taking two picks.

Old School - Tom Baker, for the insanity and the scarf

NuWho - I didn't think I'd like Matt Smith as much as David Tenant, but he's really bringing out the childlike glee in the character, which I like. So it's not just because he's got Karen Gillan with him, okay?

Although, redheads? Rawr

I'm normally a fan of redheads myself (daydreams) but not amy pond...

Id much rather have Marsha. Heck, I'd even prefer Donna (and that's saying something). Maybe we should start a new thread for favourite companion too. (RIP Elizabeth Sladen).

I'm not a fan of Matt Smith, neither as the Doctor, or the writing for the past few series. Seems like Stephen MOffat is just going over the same old ground and ruining it (River Song, the Weeping Angels etc)

Personally my Doctor is Tom Baker, although I'll always have a soft spot for Peter Davidson as he was the first one I watched and Tennant really impressed too.

I think it’s easier to say which actors have not done justice to the part, rather than select "who’s" best… as each Dr has been a product of the time and resources put into the show during their tenure of the role.

Matt Smith has certainly added a new and welcome dimension… But David Tenant really brought the character back to life riding on the back of an equally superb portrayal by Christopher Eclestone

Well, thats my two pence worth anyway!!!

Rugeley

Definately Tom Baker. Probably because he's the actor I remember most. The original theme music was the best too, Delia Derbyshire was an amazing talent.

Never watched it as a kid, but from what I've seen over recent years it's got to be David Tenant

original doctor was the best also for me: First Doctor William Hartnell 1963–1966.

the new doctor dose not do it for me (Matt Smith)
